After the first of the year I’m gonna . . .

2015

I’ve noticed that it’s difficult to get anyone to do anything when the holiday season comes upon us. I’m trying to get some construction work done and everyone is telling me that it will be after the first of the year. The same holds true with ministry work; everyone seems to have gone into shutdown mode and wants to wait until after the first.

I know someone who has recently told me that he wants to further develop his business for a few years and then sell it and at that point he will devote his time to doing many good things for the Lord.

In James 4:13 we are warned: “Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit.” Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.

I once heard that opportunity is like a taxicab; you either get in when one pulls up, or you wait on another. It might be a long cold wait if you take a pass on it. In fact another one might never come your way again.

I feel a tremendous urgency that NOW is the time to be working towards sharing the Gospel and not waiting . . .  I fear our government as it continuously wages an all-out attack on religious freedom. I worry that in prison ministry that our politically correct government will stop allowing us inside the walls to talk about Jesus. I am concerned that my health might fail and my opportunity will fail right along with it.

Better to “make hay while the sun still shines”. That is why I try to take advantage of every opportunity that I’m afforded, unless it conflicts with another. I think a good rule for all is that if it is within our capacity to do something for the Lord then we should do it as fast as we can, without delay.

Look for your opportunity today to witness to someone; don’t wait until you are more polished in your presentation, (“after the first of the year”). If you discover a need for someone and you can fulfill it, do so and so let your light shine as to make being a believer something to be admired. In Hebrews 13:2 we are told:

Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it!

Yikes wouldn’t you hate to turn down an angel of the Lord telling him to wait until after the first of the year. We all are afforded opportunities. I urge you to take advantage of them while there is yet time.

Luke 12:19

“Then he said, ‘This is what I will do: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, ‘Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years to come; take your ease, eat, drink and be merry. But God said to him’, ‘You fool! This very night your soul is required of you; and now who will own what you have prepared?’ . . .
