I was amazed at the numbers of folks offering me a Happy Birthday on Friday. I received perhaps 1000 and I’m still receiving the belated ones; and this after asking people not to bother in Words for the Day. Thank you very much for this expression! It really made me feel good.
I was thinking of my brother and his funeral. Not one person aside from family attended. Hard to imagine someone living 55 years and not even having one person think enough of you to attend your funeral. That is one of the reasons he committed suicide I suppose; such a lonely existence. Sigh . . .
The Bible tells us much about friends. It states that we need them. It also states that in order to have friends, one must be friendly themselves. I would add that we must care about others and at times sacrifice our own desires to accommodate theirs. It really isn’t really a sacrifice when you care for someone.
This morning I’m taking my best friend hunting. His health is not good and I’ve been praying for him. I’m going to put him on the best deer stand I have, even though it is situated right were I’ve located the best deer on the property. I hope he gets an opportunity to harvest this fine specimen. And that is saying a lot as much as I love my deer hunting.
Knowing my buddy, if he doesn’t get/see one he will claim I put him on a bad spot while I took the best one for myself. He does it every year. It’s all in good fun and we both enjoy the banter as much as the hunt.
I was antisocial for many years and all alone. I like it far better having friends all over the world. It is amazing what God can do in someone’s life if we will just allow it. My best friends follow Jesus Christ and we love Him first in our lives. That kind of friendship cannot be found in the secular world.
I urge you to go to church and meet some new friends. Invite them over and dine together. Study the Bible together; share the good and the bad times together. You will never regret it.
