Yesterday another rookie police officer just 31 years of age was killed after being shot multiple times during a routine traffic stop. Another manhunt is on, only this time it’s in Kentucky.
Just 31 years old, what a tragedy. Sigh . . .
Radio talk show host Preston Scott spoke yesterday at Honey Lake Church and WOW what a sermon he gave. If you missed it, you missed a good one. One story he told was how a sixteen year old boy in the pouring down rain saw a police officer getting gas in her car. The boy asked his mother to wait a moment and he went and stood behind the officer. You might recall that a police officer was gunned down from behind and shot in the back last week. When the officer asked what he was doing he said I’m watching your back.
You might recall an incident during spring break where some wounded warriors in wheelchairs were spit and urinated upon and whiskey poured on them from an upstairs balcony by college fraternity punks during spring break this year. I have been asked to come and spend some time with them and speak to them about finding hope. Some citizens from Panama City have organized a parade and will honor them this entire week by taking them deep sea fishing, golfing, and otherwise help them to have a good time
Evil abounds in this society. The problem is in the dark hearts of our populace. When our society allowed the Ten Commandments to be removed from our buildings and the public domain, prayer from schools, the killing of unborn children and subsequent sale of their tissue and organs, and changing of God’s establishment of marriage to one of anything goes, it created consequences of tragic proportion.
Everyone is looking for a Jewish calendar blood moon judgment this month that will shake our nation and indeed the world and bring it to its knees. I contend that it is already being shaken to its knees. Just look at the headlines.
So is all hopeless?
Nope, as you read above there are still Spirit filled people out there that love the Lord and don’t have black hearts. They are appreciative of what our police officers do to keep us safe and the same with our military veterans. There are people who care about those children being used in sex slavery, feeding the hungry, giving clothes to the poor, helping the addicted, caring for abused children, helping those contemplating suicide, and trying to fight persecution of Christians.
The problem is that there aren’t enough people who are finding ways to help others or who have the courage to watch the back of a police officer getting gas. Too many in the churches don’t look beyond their spending one hour of worship per week to what God truly intended for His church. And for those cowards who stand behind the pulpit and refuse to boldly preach the Gospel, they are the biggest problem of all.
Jesus offered us some advice. Where do we all fit in this morning? Are you feeling blessed this morning? If not act today and tell them Jesus sent you.
Matthew 5:3
“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
