Today my wife Teresa goes in for her last chemo treatment. She will spend the day hooked up to an IV and then spend the next 3 weeks in absolute hell as the poison rips through her system. Each treatment has gotten progressively worse and she is at a point where she is so weak that she can barely walk twenty feet before collapsing. It is heart breaking to observe her in so much pain and so sick.
Prior to this year my wife and I both have been exceedingly healthy and have not experienced anything worse than a few colds. I suppose we took our health for granted. Not anymore! Good health is a blessing from God and if you are currently enjoying it, then you should thank God almighty for it and enjoy it while it lasts.
Sometimes we wonder if God is far away or will He be watching today as we enter the cancer treatment clinic. In Isaiah it is written: “Can a woman forget her nursing child And have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, but I will not forget you. “Behold, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands.” That is one of the most comforting verses in the Bible to me and assures us that God will be right there with us every step of the way.
Our fleshly bodies are not designed to live forever and in fact are destined to return to dust. We are comprised of three parts: the body, the soul and our spirit. God designed us whereby our body dies but our soul and spirit live forever. We must always remember that our time spent on this earth is a vitally important time that determines the eternal destination for both our spirit and soul. When we come to receive Jesus as our Savior our name is written in the book of life and can never be erased.
So even though we endure trials and tribulations that sometimes seem all but impossible to bear, we endure and look forward to the coming reunification with the Lord with great anticipation. Soon enough God will perfect us and grant us a new glorified body that will be free from cancer and all defects forever. And we will walk with Him in the cool of the evening as did Adam in the Garden of Eden.
Praise the name of God and our Savior Jesus Christ who suffered on the cross and established victory over death and made this promise reality. We know that it is only through our faith and His grace through His spilled blood and broken body and not by good works or anything we may do that we may live on in perfect harmony and enjoy His presence in heaven forever. We love you Jesus!
Romans 8:37
“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
