Yesterday I spoke at Wise Counsel event in Jacksonville Florida. I’ve already received numerous comments about the irony of ME speaking at a WISE council meeting; (so there is no need for more and you don’t need to write; wise cracks flow off my back like rain does off a duck’s back).

I was delighted to see one of the members of my former Sunday school class there. Four of us would sit together every Sunday and he was one of them. I also ran into the wife and son of my Sunday school teacher at the event and it seemed like a small world.

Billy Graham’s son Franklin is conducting a stadium crusade event called a festival that will be live-streamed all over the world in 37 days. At this Wise Council meeting I was the keynote speaker and I suppose my presence was designed to draw people to the event, my buddy was the Chairman of Finance/fundraising and he performed the “ask” for money after my testimony, my former Sunday school teacher’s wife was overall Chairman of the event and she fired up the troops. I thought it was quite the coincidence that so many folks associated with our Sunday school class all appeared on the same stage.

On the other hand it is no small wonder that our Sunday school class was so well represented, because we all love doing kingdom work and try to serve Him at every opportunity. I wish God had commanded two Sabbaths, because I love going to church and Sunday school. I am not alone in that line of thinking.

My kids and grandkids love church and Sunday school too and go every Sunday. I wonder if they will have a similar experience as I had yesterday when they grow older. When my boys were growing up there was no question as to whether or not we were going to church; if it was Sunday it was understood that we were going to church. When they had kids they taught them in like manner.

I truly feel sorry that so many don’t ever attend church, much less Sunday school. The number dropping out is increasing every year. I’ve made my closest friends at church and made lasting friendships that will span a lifetime and on into eternity. I have also found meaning to my life and peace, joy, and love that can only come from obedience to Christ and love in serving Him.

If you are not going to church, especially if you have children, then please consider going. Not only did God command that we do so (in the Ten Commandments no less), but it just makes logical sense. I have tried most everything this world has to offer and nothing is meaningful apart from living a life of obedience to Jesus. Don’t forget that the Sabbath belongs to the Lord, and don’t look at it as a chore. You will find it is fun!

Hebrews 10:25

And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.
