Yesterday I had lunch with a friend and he told me that he mentioned to a couple of his friends that he was going to Honey Lake to have lunch with me and they indicated that they don’t like me. I don’t even know them, but apparently they read Words for the Day and don’t like what I write, particularly as it pertains to President Obama.
My friend said he told them there was an easy solution to that and all they had to do is go to the bottom of the page and click “unsubscribe” – Problem solved.
I smiled and asked what they said, and he responded that they didn’t say anything. Apparently they are masochists and enjoy the torture of reading it.
It is an enigma to me why people bother to read WFTD when they obviously don’t like it. After 16 years of writing it five days a week and listening to the groans, threats, and loud chatter, I’ve become somewhat used to it and little surprises me anymore.
I got a letter from a lady just this week who was railing about something I wrote a couple of weeks ago about those who are marching down the streets protesting, looting, rioting, and yelling “Hands up – Don’t shoot”, “I can’t breathe”, and the latest: “What do you want? Dead Cops! – When do you want it? Now!”
She apparently marched in a protest in NYC over the weekend and was incensed at my insensitivity. I saw a photo of a sign on a bridge the other day that stated: “Pants up – Don’t loot!” I thought it was rather funny so I guess I am insensitive.
It seems to me that many folks in this country think we should abandon free speech when it happens to oppose their views. It is fine for them to hold up traffic and yell obscenities but when anyone dares to say anything about them or those that incite them like President Obama, Eric Holder, and Al Sharpton; well then it is you that is labeled a racist and an insensitive moron.
All of mankind is a mess. It is so messed up it is difficult to envision what it will be like when Jesus returns for His church and establishes His kingdom. The Bible states that “the wolf will live with the lamb”. There will be no more fighting, yelling, cursing, racial or religious hatred and fanaticism, killing, violence, and sin. God will heal us and our land. There will be peace in the valley, on the hilltops and everywhere. Everyone will get along. There will be no tears, sadness, grief, tragedy, sickness, or troubles, just ever abounding love.
I yearn for those days to come quickly. As I think about it this morning I remember times in the Bible when a good ruler would rule Israel and there would be peace. 2 Chron. 7:14 states: If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Could we be so fortunate as to elect a “humble” President who will lead our nation to seek the Lord Jesus Christ down on our knees in humility in prayer to ask His forgiveness and to heal our land?
Yes, it can happen and has happened before as recorded in the Bible. I think it must start with each one of us. As for me I admit to God each and every day that I’m a sinner and get down on my knees and ask Him to help me to become a better person. Some days are better than others, but admittedly I have a long way to go. I’m praying for a miracle and if not, well . . .
Come quickly Jesus!
Isaiah 11:6
The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them.
