I went to a meeting at Honey Lake on Monday to discuss next year’s quail hunting season program. When I walked into the room most all of those within our company involved with managing it were already there. I spied our young plantation manager and I nodded to him and said: “Meathead”, (one of my many affectionate nicknames for him).
One of our dog trainers who was intently looking down at something in her notebook, without even glancing up nonchalantly said, “Oh, he’s still at the cardiologist”.
She thought I was referring to her husband Ed who was at a doctor’s appointment and everyone roared with laughter at poor old Ed’s expense. The one that laughed longest and loudest was the youngster whom the derogatory term was originally intended.
I think it is unfortunate that our society is moving towards censorship and that freedom of speech has already become a thing of the past. Now a slip up, even in the privacy of one’s own home, can mean devastation. Take Donald Sterling. Yes he is a despicable immoral miserable old multi-billionaire who has a mistress that he loves, but in this country of freedom of thought and expression he is supposed to be entitled to say and think whatever he wants, this according to our beloved constitution.
In a fit of rage in a phone conversation he jealously told his gold digging mistress not to bring black people to a basketball game. Okay he obviously doesn’t want his mistress going out on the town without him, especially with black people. But stop and think about what is now happening because of this squabble. He is being forced to sell his business because his private conversation, which escalated into a jealous argument, was secretly and illegally recorded and released to the press.
Or what about the professional football player that tweeted to some of his friends that it was horrible to watch the first openly homosexual NFL football player kiss his boyfriend on the lips on television after the draft. He almost was fired and had to go to “sensitivity training” in order to properly indoctrinate him to today’s societal thinking on the subject.
Where will it stop?
There are many that smugly state that these and others are only getting what they deserve for making careless caddy remarks, but I wonder if they will be so smug when it happens to them. Say something, write something, or forward an e-mail about something that can even remotely be construed by some extremist to be anti-homosexual, racist, anti-feminist, or whatever and immediately you will be castigated if not castrated.
It seems that the groups that are first to demand tolerance are the least tolerant.
Well at least one group is still open game, and that would be Christians. Where is the outrage and fierce protection for the Christians! There is none in the liberal press or the White House . . . No they slam us all of the time.
Bahhh . . . I suppose at some point that they will be marching down Honey Lake road to protest my musings. Gosh, I hope and pray that no careless hunter puts some buckshot in their butts . . .
