Yesterday I wrote about political corruption in high places. Understandably I heard back from some politicians, lobbyists, and a few others. The majority agreed with my comments, but a few disagreed. One lady wrote: “I recently subscribed to Bob Williamson’s daily blog. Most are encouraging. I don’t know how factual he is, but this one was not.”
Well I can say that she got it half right in saying that it was not encouraging, but unfortunately it was indeed factual. Some don’t like to admit that there are those in our government who are corrupt, but that doesn’t change the facts. It occurs on the local and state level but nowhere is it more blatant than on the national scene. Check out this article:
Want to get rich? Get elected to the U.S. Congress
Recent revelations show that a lot of members of Congress came to Washington to do good — and stayed to do well. Very well.
The most celebrated case involves Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., the former speaker of the House of Representatives and the current House Democratic leader. A segment of CBS’ “60 Minutes” recently reported that she and her husband “have participated in at least eight” initial public offerings of stock, which generally provide lucrative profit opportunities.
“60 Minutes” said that one such IPO came in 2008 from the credit card company Visa, “just as a troublesome piece of legislation that would have hurt credit card companies began making its way through the House. Undisturbed by a potential conflict of interest, the Pelosis purchased 5,000 shares of Visa at the initial price of $44. Two days later, it was trading at $64. The credit card legislation never made it to the floor of the House.”
The net worth of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi increased by 62 percent from 2009 to 2010. In 2009 it was reported that she had a net worth of 21.7 million dollars, and in 2010 it was reported that she had a net worth of 35.2 million dollars.
The percentage of millionaires in Congress is more than 50 times higher than the percentage of millionaires in the general population and just as it has been for most of human history, the rich rule over the poor.
Okay so she and others got rich, how is that corrupt? Sadly, the candidate that raises the most money almost always wins. I recently read another article that said in part: “In federal elections the candidate that raises the most money wins about 90 percent of the time. More than 5 billion dollars were spent on political campaigns back in 2008.
That represents a huge number of favors that need to be paid back. When big corporations and wealthy individuals shovel huge piles of money into political campaigns, it is generally because they expect something in return and most of the time they get it because many of those that get sent to Congress realize that they would never have won if wealthy donors had not showered cash on them.”
Most of them understand that they should not bite the hands that feed them or the cash will not continue to keep rolling in and they will lose their next election. So they willingly pass legislation favorable to their bundlers and contributors regardless of whether or not it is helpful to the taxpayers and country at large.
How do they get away with it? Not enough people are willing to take a stand against it; instead they act like the proverbial three monkeys that shut their eyes, ears, and lips to see no evil, hear no evil, and speak no evil and pretend corruption doesn’t exist in government, but denial doesn’t change the facts. I saw an article the other day that quoted Pastor Hagee out of Texas. He put it in perspective rather eloquently:
If there was ever a time for the Christians of America to stiffen their spine and stand up and speak up, it’s now,” Hagee admonished. “To see evil and not call it evil is evil. Not to speak is to speak. We cannot be silent and receive God’s approval at a time like this.”
We wonder why God is turning His back on America and morality is becoming almost non-existent; it is because too many folks are reluctant to speak out. This must change. I told someone the other day that God is the one who put Obama in office. He nearly spit up as he choked on his coffee.
When he regained his composure, I explained that too many Christian people have been content to lounge around on their fat butts on their couches with their mouths hanging open worshipping their “one eyed God” television and are too lazy to even vote. Even if they did vote they don’t know the issues or seem to care about them.
Obama got elected by those who did vote and his administration immediately began destroying our once great country one segment at a time, health care, justice department, defense department, marriage, economy, high taxes, unprecedented welfare, and bigger government.
Now it seems that at least some of the people are beginning to wake up to it and realize that these policies are ruining their way of life. Many are fed up and want change. Hopefully enough will get out the vote next election so we can begin to fundamentally transform America back to one nation under God.
I believe that God in His infinite wisdom knew that without this radical socialist Obama in office, Americans might never long for a return to sanity. I remember a time when condoms were not handed out in middle school and homosexuality was not taught as being acceptable beginning in Kindergarten. A time when men didn’t marry men and women didn’t marry women. When abortion was rare and we could pray at a high school football game and put crosses in military graveyards. A time when we understood that our founding fathers founded this nation one nation under God and we put our trust in Him and it was not politically incorrect to proudly say, “I’m a Christian!”; I remember when the government didn’t spy on its citizens punish its political enemies with IRS audits and free speech worked both ways.
I really long to go back to those days.
Let’s just hope that it doesn’t take 8 years of Hillary Clinton too in order to restore America and for people to renew their faith in God and not government.
Now for you who are just itching to give me a piece of your mind, go fly a kite. It’s nice and windy today. (Yes you can read between the lines . . . Selah . . . )
2 Peter 2:19
They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption. For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved.
