You won’t want to miss hearing Nancy Alcorn speak this Sunday (April 13th at 11:00 a.m.) at Honey Lake Church. Nancy is no ordinary speaker; God has anointed her beyond the pale and as evidence she routinely speaks to 25,000 plus with the Joyce Meyers Women’s Ministry and other events. She is also a celebrated author and has written several fascinating books including; Echoes of Mercy and Mercy Moves Mountains.

Whoa . . . Our little church only holds 250, (if we are all friendly). Why would a celebrity of her stature bother coming to such a small venue located in an out of the way nondescript place like Greenville Florida. I can assure you it isn’t for the money because out little country church could never afford to bring an international speaker like her to Honey Lake. Yet when I asked her to join us she didn’t hesitate, and she stated it has never been about numbers or money for her, and she would come if only one person were blessed by it.

She has a heart filled with love, compassion, and mercy. You know who else has a heart filled with love, compassion, and mercy? Jesus Christ. Perhaps that is why He has blessed her and her ministry so much. She is a woman after his own heart.

In her own words she states why she chose to enter the ministry fulltime:

“It was during and after college that I spent eight years working for the state of Tennessee at a correctional facility for juvenile delinquent girls and investigating child abuse cases. Working for the state on a daily basis gave me direct encounters with secular programs that were not producing permanent results that exemplified changed lives. I saw many of the girls pass the age of eighteen and end up in the women’s prison system because they never got the real help they needed. After working for the state and recognizing that true transformation would never come as the result of any government system, I was appointed Director of Women for the Nashville Teen Challenge program where I worked for two years. Through my experience, I began to realize that only Jesus could bring restoration into the lives of girls who were desperately hurting and searching for something to fill the void they felt in their hearts. I knew God was unfolding a plan prompting me to step out in faith to help hurting young women.

In January 1983, I determined to establish a program in which lives would truly be transformed, I moved to Monroe, Louisiana to start Mercy Ministries of America. I knew that there were three principles to which I must always remain faithful: (1) accept girls free of charge, (2) always give at least ten percent of all donations to other organizations and ministries, and (3) do not take any state or federal funding or any money that interferes with the freedom to share Christ.

Several years and many changed lives later, Mercy Ministries has established locations in Monroe, Louisiana; Nashville, Tennessee; St. Louis, Missouri; and Sacramento, California. The organization has grown beyond the borders of the United States, including locations in the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Canada. In addition, plans are underway for more sites in America as well as internationally.”

Hmmm . . . I hope it isn’t lost upon you that she discovered that true transformation and restoration of desperately hurting lives cannot be accomplished through government programs. The problems in our downward spiraling secular society can only be successfully realized when Jesus Christ is center stage. We need God in our lives and not more government programs.

You won’t want to miss her. Personally I can’t wait. As an added bonus Nancy will be bringing an unexpected surprise mystery guest. Her friend is a world renowned singer whose career has skyrocketed and even includes sound tracks of songs that she recorded for several movies. It was a delightful surprise to learn that she was coming too, and I was all ready to announce her visit, but was asked not to reveal her name until the church service this Sunday and not to make a big deal out of it.

What?

Oh all right . . .

No letters/calls please . . . I am sworn to secrecy.

I hope you will join us for a tremendous worship service and a great celebration of what God is doing through Nancy and her many friends all over the world. With her talent and speaking ability she could have made millions of dollars in the corporate world as a celebrated business person and motivational speaker, but she chose the ministry in order to work with those whose lives are filled with pain and suffering. She is a faithful humble servant of our Lord and because of her faithfulness God has found favor in her and blessed her in ways secular people cannot understand. He has poured out his love upon her life. I hope you will come; you will be blessed.

After several weeks off I’ll be teaching my Bible study class again this Sunday and the topic will be what the Bible has taught me about how to pray. I’m no Nancy Alcorn, but I think I’ve learned some interesting things about prayer and trust you will enjoy it. Starts at 9:30 . . .

Luke 6:36

Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
