It was a busy weekend in Dallas for the Bill Glass Prison Ministry volunteers. 2,571 made decisions to follow Christ, 1,287 for the first time! This represents approximately 40% of the inmate population with whom we spoke.
After the event I flew from Dallas to Mississippi to be with my ailing 92 year old father. This morning he will be operated on and there is a better than average chance that he will not survive.
It’s so sad to think that I won’t see him in this life again; do you suppose he might be reincarnated?
In 2 Samuel 14:14 it states, All of us must die eventually. Our lives are like water spilled out on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again.
Hmmm . . . Guess not
Well what does happen to us after we die?
The Bible states in Hebrews 9:27 “And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment” . . . 2 Cor. 5:10 For we must all stand before Christ to be judged. We will each receive whatever we deserve for the good or evil we have done in this earthly body. Matt. 25:32 All the nations will be gathered in His presence, and He will separate the people as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
Yikes! I don’t like the sound of that. I’ve done some bad stuff . . . (Baa Baa black sheep?)
Fear not – Old Samuel also wrote, But God does not just sweep life away; instead, He devises ways to bring us back when we have been separated from Him.
In John 3:16 it states: For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.
1 John 1:9 it affirms, “But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness”.
In Romans 10:9 it testifies, “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord’, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved”.
Hmmm . . . Imagine for a moment that like my father you are facing a very serious operation in the morning and you very well might die and after that face the judgment from almighty God who is a fearsome, holy, and totally righteous judge . . .
Selah . . . Stop, rest, and meditate on this for a moment.
Are you afraid to die? Are you afraid to face God and give an accounting for everything both good and bad that you have done in your life? Are you afraid of the judgment?
Jesus already paid the price for our sins and if He is our Savior we don’t have to worry about the judgment because Jesus owns us and His blood will have paid for our sins. Hebrews 10:17 Then he says, “I will never again remember their sins and lawless deeds.”
My father isn’t worried in the least about dying in the morning, because Jesus has forgiven His sins and paid the heavy price for them. In fact my father has prayed to God and asked Him to take him “home” tomorrow. He’s looking forward to seeing Jesus and being with Him and those who’ve gone before him to live together forever in peace and joy and sheer love.
As a matter of fact I feel the same way.
40% of the prisoners in the Dallas area accepting Christ this weekend was great, but what about the other 60%?
The ball is in their court . . . Pray that the lost will receive Christ won’t you . . .
Is the ball in your court? If so, know this: I’m praying for you and Jesus is
waiting for you . . .
Rev. 3:20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.
John 14:6 it states, Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me”.
