Several of you have asked for an update on my ailing father. He will have a very serious operation on Monday and God’s omnipotent, unstoppable, supreme, almighty, all-powerful, invincible, supreme, and absolutely perfect will for his life will be accomplished; he will either live on for a while, or begin his homecoming celebration that will last for eternity in heaven with Jesus Christ and those saints who God has taken home ahead of him.
The excruciating pain in his legs is being relieved via pain medication. I asked if it helped and he said that indeed it did, except he felt, “loggerheaded”. I laughed and remarked that I used to enjoy that feeling of being “loggerheaded”. He grumpily replied, “Well I don’t!”
Many have written to ask if my home remedy of putting a quart of Clorox in my bath water relieved my itching from chiggers, (red bugs). It might have killed a couple of hundred thousand of them, but the other several million survivors have left me still scratching like my old dog Bear when he had fleas.
Since the Clorox didn’t do the trick, I’ve tried another home remedy and have used an entire bottle of fingernail polish on them, and my skin is now dotted with even redder little spots and when I move it tears my skin.
Before you ask, that remedy didn’t work all that well either.
A “friend” advised that I take sulphur pills and dust myself with sulphur dust. Geez Louise, have you ever smelled sulphur? I have, and it stinks worse than Clorox . . . I was desperate however, but luckily didn’t find any in the drugstore.
It’s amazing what people will do to try and find relief for their pain and discomfort. My wife remarked that without question I’ve fallen into a downward spiral and indeed everywhere I turn it seems I’m receiving bad news. First the chigger invasion, then my dad’s dilemma, and then a host of problems at work with a couple of unreasonable employees, and I’m facing some troubling health issues of my own . . .
Sigh . . .
Yesterday I began my day addressing a large crowd of government officials and faith based ministries in Orlando Florida. I don’t know if anyone had ever told them about Jesus Christ in such a public forum before, but they got a huge dose of Him yesterday I tell you, (and I might add that they loved it, and gave me a rousing standing ovation).
I immediately flew to Dallas for a Bill Glass prison event and last night during our spiritual enrichment session (prior to going into the prison yards tomorrow), my good friend C.F. Hazlewood had us standing on our feet with a stirring message. We were praising our holy God and feeling His presence in the room and it made shivers go up and down my spine.
Today hundreds of us will go into 18 different prison yards and preach the word of Christ to inmates who are miserable and hurting. I expect several thousand to turn to Jesus for relief in the next two days and that attainment of peace, joy and eternal hope in their otherwise hopeless lives is sure to put a smile on their otherwise grim countenances.
In our rapidly declining society we seem to tend to turn to medication (legal and illegal), alcohol, sex, violence, power, fame, and about everything known to man for relief except the very thing we need: the healing and saving grace of Jesus Christ. Ironically nothing can give us peace, joy, love, and hope apart from our Lord; it only comes from Christ.
This Sunday my great friend Walter Santos will be leading our service at Honey Lake Church. He appeared early last year and believe me he had the entire congregation feeling wonderful within minutes. He loves the Lord with all of his heart and in case you don’t remember him, he is one of the most talented musicians and singers on this planet and has traveled worldwide and recorded with virtually every big name band in the country.
He overcame heroin addiction many years ago and ever since has been singing and playing his music and giving his riveting testimony to bring honor and glory to the One who gave him peace and relieved his misery in order that you and I might have it too.
It’s nauseating and sickening to see what’s happening to our once great country with a government gone nutty, the demise of our healthcare system, declining morality, greed in business, racial unrest, poverty, addictions, failing education system, and making heroes out of Hollywood maggots.
So where are you gonna turn for relief?
Have a great weekend and go to Honey Lake Church, (or somewhere) this Sunday!
Psalms 87:7
As they make music they will sing, “All my fountains are in you.”
