Charles Krauthammer is an American Pulitzer Prize-winning syndicated columnist, political commentator, and physician. His weekly column is syndicated to more than 400 newspapers worldwide. He’s a contributing editor to the Weekly Standard, a weekly panelist on the PBS news program Inside Washington, and a nightly panelist on Fox News’s Special Report with Bret Baier. He attended McGill University, Balliol College, Harvard University, Harvard Medical School, and the University of Oxford.

Krauthammer began his journalism career at that bastion of liberalism, The New Republic, where he was a writer and editor and won the 1984 National Magazine Award for Essays and Criticism.

Before going into journalism, he was a speechwriter for Vice President Walter Mondale in 1980, and he helped direct planning in psychiatric research for the Carter administration. Yes he was a liberal!

He became disillusioned with (and did an about face) on his liberal ideology however; and now, (at least within the American political spectrum), Krauthammer is what I would describe as a staunch conservative. However, on domestic issues, he is a supporter of legalized abortion; an opponent of the death penalty; a supporter of embryonic stem cell research using embryos discarded by fertility clinics; and a supporter of dramatically higher energy prices in order to promote conservation.

He is Jewish but not religious and in fact is an intelligent design critic and an advocate for the scientific consensus on evolution. His spinal cord was severed in a diving accident however he never developed self-pity and declined to ask the question, “Why me?” rather “Why not me?” He has recently written a book, “Things that Matter” and he’s publically stated that he wants to “live a life that matters”.

By all appearances he has and is making his mark on America. I like to read and listen to his commentary on the political side of things and those highly intellectual people among us must like him too, or he would’ve never won the coveted Pulitzer Prize for Commentary.

So, is he accomplishing his goal of “living a life that matters”?

Hmmm . . . I suppose that is determined by asking another question: To whom does his life matter? I would think that while the world might admire him for his accomplishments, (especially in light of his handicap), God must be deeply disappointed in him. He hasn’t merely rejected Jesus Christ, but God Himself and chosen atheism. The things that matter to God aren’t being accomplished by this otherwise brilliant man. He does not glorify God nor even acknowledge His existence.

One day he will die and then face God at the judgment. We already know the penalty and rewards that God will mete out for all of humanity including Charles; it is recorded in Romans 6:23 for all to see – For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

We know Charles Krauthammer is guilty just as is every other human being who has ever lived is guilty. It too is recorded in Romans 3:23 – For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Jesus Christ paid the price of death for all sinners and in order to live a life that matters to God, Charles (and we) must:

“Confess our sins to Him; He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness”. 1 John 1:9

Believe the words of Jesus: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me”. John 14:6

“Declare with our mouths ‘Jesus is Lord’, and believe in our hearts that God raised him from the dead, and we will be saved”.

So the next time you happen to watch Mr. Krauthammer on Fox news or elsewhere I would ask you to pray for him. I’m not judging him mind you, but simply taking what he publically states and applying the word of God to his own words.

I’d love to see him come to know Christ and live a life that REALLY matters. I don’t give a hoot if it matters to a bunch of pseudo intellectuals in Washington D.C. or other various blowhards and political junkies throughout America, but to God who loves him with an incomprehensible love and wants to have mercy and compassion on him. He has a beautiful mind that from all appearances has an ugly tumor in it that needs to be healed, but Jesus cannot heal it unless he opens the eyes of his heart and the door that prevents Jesus from blessing him forever.

Christ wants to transform all of our lives and make them meaningful for all of eternity. What a waste of beautiful minds for them to reside in hell forever; all because they mistook what living a life that matters really means . . .

Rev. 3:20

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.
