According to my son’s dream this is my last day on earth and I will die tomorrow.
So what to do today?
Well I’m going Bass fishing at daylight with a buddy, and then we’re gonna have some breakfast. I have an interview with a potential candidate at 10 a.m. and a couple of meetings to attend. I also have a zillion projects to do; e-mail to answer; and phone calls to return, and I’ll probably go Bass fishing again when it cools down later this evening. Then I’ll eat dinner, work on my book a little, and I’ll read ‘til I get sleepy and finally drift on off into my dream world; in other words it’s pretty much business as usual.
In Matthew 24:38 Jesus describes this same “business as usual” attitude being displayed by the people of the world just prior to Noah entering the ark. Noah and his family were saved when they entered, but all those who didn’t get on board died in their sins. This is an image of what is to come one more time in the latter days.
People will be conducting business as usual right up until the day Jesus returns. Those who have trusted Him will be saved and those who have not will endure His wrath:
For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark . . .
Jesus was predicting that the people of the world will be unconcerned and going about their lives as they always have, and then suddenly like a thief in the night, (totally unexpected), the Lord will appear in the sky and in that moment every other work will be laid aside, and every heart will turn inward and say, It is the Lord! Am I prepared to meet him? Can I stand before him?
As for me I don’t dread that day; I look forward to it! Not because of anything I’ve done mind you, but because my sins have been washed away by the blood of Christ on the cross and I’m forgiven. Those of us sinners who’ve put our faith in Jesus will rejoice as we marvel when Christ makes “all things new”. God will do away with every wicked human scheme, and sets aside forever all that He forbids.
But not all of us will be thrilled, and in fact some shall be terrified. They shall look upon “Him whom they have pierced” with their sins, and though they laugh today, shall mourn and weep in endless horror and despair at the overwhelming sight of their almighty God as He prepares to render His righteous judgment upon them and this wicked – wicked world.
I’m not worried about tomorrow, even if it doesn’t come, (on planet earth). My God created us to live forever and dying is simply the next step to eternal life in heaven. Every human soul will spend those days either in heaven or hell. I’m going to heaven.
I have a friend who recently has been broken hearted and devastated by some terrible circumstances in his life. Recently I prayed with him and he accepted Christ as his Savior. It was miraculous in more ways than one. Almost immediately many of his problems seemed to disappear and several very good things occurred and life has begun to improve for him.
I recently saw him at the airport and he already seems to have drifted away from God some, and in fact as we spoke he told me that he hasn’t attended church lately. He related to me that he’s not been staying as close to the Lord as he was when he was suffering. I told him to ask the Lord to revive him again and keep looking towards the sky and expecting Jesus to come every day.
We should all take a page out of that book. The Bible warns us to live each day as though there will be no tomorrow. There is a song that I used to love by Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions, People Get Ready, (if you remember this, then you’re old).
People get ready, there’s a train a comin’
You don’t need no baggage, you just get on board
All you need is faith to hear the diesels hummin’
Don’t need no ticket, you just thank the Lord
People get ready for the train to Jordan
It’s picking up passengers from coast to coast
Faith is the key, open the doors and board ’em
There’s hope for all among those loved the most.
There ain’t no room for the hopeless sinner
Who would hurt all mankind just to save his own
Have pity on those whose chances grow thinner
For there’s no hiding place against the Kingdom’s throne
So people get ready, there’s a train a comin’
You don’t need no baggage, you just get on board
All you need is faith to hear the diesels hummin’
Don’t need no ticket, you just thank the Lord
Are you ready?
I hope you aren’t putting your eggs in the world’s basket like those who wouldn’t board the ark, because this sick old world is going away with a bang and you want to be on board that train to glory. A new heaven and earth will be ushered in for those of us who love the Lord and that is the train we all need to be on.
Go to heaven!
2 Peter 3:10
But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up.
