Yesterday I was one of the speakers at the Faith and Freedom Coalition Prayer Breakfast. The goal of this organization is to try and elect officials who will represent conservative values especially in regard to faith and our basic freedoms.
Interestingly it came to light that over one million Floridians who claim to be evangelical didn’t even register to vote in the last presidential election, Obama won Florida by a margin of about 70,000 votes. Democrats registered over 500,000 new voters in the last election; Republicans a little over 100,000.
Hmmm . . .
My son and I were fortunate enough to meet with some of the Board members the night before the breakfast and participate in a discussion about the Coalition’s strategies. Basically they intend to form a coalition of like-minded individuals to mobilize churches and pastors to register more voters in future elections who share common values in the areas of faith and freedom.
I was encouraged to see that they are not aiming their drive solely at Republicans, but also Democrats, Independents, and Libertarians with particular emphasis on non-traditional targets such as young people and minorities. They are not pushing a party per se, but issues that are important to people of faith and freedom in the hopes that they will get out and vote next time and elect officials that will boldly espouse their faith and importantly VOTE accordingly.
I am amazed that so many evangelicals sat out that last election. If there was ever a time that Christians of all stripes should could together it was then, and now it’s even more imperative. These are dangerous times in which we live and we are losing freedoms daily. Indeed there could come a day when I might get arrested for daring to write this column and/or speak publically at Honey Lake Church. While that might sound far-fetched to some; just read the Bible as it pertains to prophecies that outline what will happen as the world becomes more and more evil and overtakes the world and humanity slides into the Tribulation.
I told the audience that whether it concerns our personal lives, businesses, or government, that we have a spiritual imperative to be engaged and to boldly proclaim our faith; the Bible states that obligation is God ordained!
When people of faith get engaged, good things begin to happen and this is a time for us all of us to get engaged. Freedom to enjoy personal freedoms we have enjoyed for centuries, such as building faith based businesses as I have done, and the ability to worship as we see fit depend upon it.
One board member told me that Rick Warren, (author of the best seller, The Purpose Driven Life), came to an event and he asked the board member how many folks they were trying to draw to the rally. The man responded that they hoped for 10,000. Pastor Warren told him to add a zero on the end, (100,000), and that is how they could tell if God was involved or not. They changed the goal and over 50,000 came!
That was five times their initial pre-asking-God-to-get-involved goal. Our Lord showed up in a big way, eh?
During my brief talk I recounted the radical change that God performed in my life and I told them that my transformation didn’t come from politics, politicians, society, or anything I’ve personally done, but it came through God. When God shows up, mighty things happen! Please join me right now in asking God to get involved in this endeavor.
Many folks (including me) were demoralized when Obama and crew were re-elected and some have taken it further to the point of giving up all hope. That is just what satan wants and we should resist those feelings with all that we can muster.
Do you remember this verse? “You don’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.”
Don’t you realize that this same Jesus is still alive and well today and this verse is just as relevant today as it was 2000 years ago? Imagine how those soldiers of Israel felt as they faithfully marched around and around the walls of Jericho praying and blowing trumpets and then right on schedule God made those walls collapse right before their eyes. I’ve actually been there and seen those stones still lying on the ground where God tumbled them down. God can do anything within His will for our lives, but the key to tapping into that transformational power is maintaining our unswerving faith in Him.
Jesus did not save us in order that we live out our lives in obscurity, rather we are instructed to go forth and boldly proclaim His saving grace and follow HIM into battle. Find out how you can join this fight and get engaged. Join the Coalition of Faith and Freedom and let’s register some of our brethren who sleep and encourage them to vote…
Don’t be discouraged as we prepare for battle, remember God can defeat evil and shine His light on this great land once again. In order for Him to get engaged on our behalf, people of faith must live out their faith and share their testimony and not be fearful to proclaim their love for Him.
Perhaps you’re thinking that your situation is highly personal and difficult to publically proclaim.
Bah!
Follow the lead of my good friend T.K. Wetherell who will be baring his soul and sharing his highly personal battle with life threatening cancer. Listen as he shares his faith and praises his God with inspiring testimony of the Lord’s love and compassion for us all this Sunday at 10:00 a.m. at Honey Lake Church.
Don’t doubt for even a moment – Trust in your Savior – Believe that we can even restore sanity to this great country – And get off your duff and do something!
Have a great weekend and go to Honey Lake Church, (or somewhere) this weekend!
James 1:6
But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.
