Note: Today’s Words for the Day contains a few video clips. I cannot encourage you enough to watch each of them. They are short, and I guarantee you well worth the few minutes it will take to watch them. Some are hilarious; some are incredulous. Enjoy!!!!
I was having a phone conversation with a friend and asked him to text me a phone number. I was greeted with dead silence.
I said, “You do know how to send a text?”
He stammered around a little and responded, “Well not exactly.”
“Geez Louise my six year old twins can send texts. Well, never mind just send it via e-mail.”
More silence.
“Are you kidding me???”
He told me to calm down already, that he’d e-mail me the phone number. (His wife sent me the number later that day).
Unbelievably the very next day I had another friend and we went through the same exercise. It was like the movie Ground Hog Day; I initially tried for the text, but no success. When I asked about the e-mail, he hesitated and then said that he would send it to me via e-mail.
I got the e-mail later in the day and decided to test him. I replied to it saying that I didn’t get his e-mail, and I asked if he could please send it to me. Incredibly he called me that night and said he didn’t know why I didn’t get it, but he’d get his wife to send it to me again when she got home.
I responded, “Are you kidding me??? I replied to your e-mail and said I didn’t get it as a joke! Your e-mail is right below mine!”
I watched a clip on Jimmy Kimmel’s “Ridiculous Question of the Day” whereby they sent a reporter on the street and started asking people the following question: “What do you think about President Obama pardoning our sequester and sending it to Portugal?”
Random people on the street responded as follows:
- “I’m so grateful – We need to protect Portugal – That’s what Presidents do!”
- “I’m appalled that it went to Portugal – We need those jobs here at home.”
- “Scary – Very scary”
- “Sequester what? I dunno, I just voted for him cuz he’s black.”
You can watch the entire interview at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gXOV_XWJck&feature=player_embedded Hilarious!
Or what about U.S. Representative Hank Johnson – who actually represents Georgia’s Fourth District (DeKalb County) – A couple of years back Johnson said the following to an admiral during a U.S. Armed Services Committee hearing. He stated his concern about rising population levels on the Western Pacific island of Guam. “My fear is that uhhh, the whole island will, uhhh, become so overly-populated that it would tip over and, uhhhh, capsize,”
Huh?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNZczIgVXjg Doubly hilarious!
Hmmm…He had a political opponent who repeatedly ran this clip while running against him for United States Congress. It didn’t seem to make much difference to the electorate though, he was handily reelected… A classic case of dumb and dumber?
Mmmm-hmmm…
I was thinking of how God wrote a Bible that could be understood by the masses. In ancient times people were uneducated and from the foregoing it seems that some have not advanced all that much today, and in fact may even have regressed. I cannot envision writing a Bible that could be understood by the uneducated and the highly educated. If God’s Bible became too technical no one could understand it, and yet if it is too simplistic, the educated wouldn’t believe it.

All kinds of supposedly smart people love to try and disprove the Bible. I’ve had many debates with these types and they ridicule everything from the account of the flood, to creation, to the Virgin birth. Now please tell me how God can be expected to explain something like what is contained in this video to ordinary people. Consider the topic of how God created the Universe, an Ostrich, lightning, jackals, oceans, gravity, sunlight, or how an eagle soars through the air.
Doubters look for explanations that they can understand when the answers are beyond comprehension. At some point faith has to take over.
Following frequent debates about the inerrancy of the Bible and fundamentalist biblical principles with another evangelist Chuck Templeton, Billy Graham took a solitary walk through the woods near the San Bernardino Mountains. He exclaimed, “Oh God. I cannot prove certain things. I cannot answer some of the questions Chuck is raising, but I accept this Book by faith as the Word of God”. With that declaration, he found the undying faith that would support him the rest of his life.
The Holy Bible wonderfully serves its purpose. It is living and speaks to us. I’ve read it countless times and every time I read a new verse, God gives it more meaning and I understand more.
If I lived to be 50,000, I wouldn’t be any closer to understanding God’s intellect than I am today. We were created lower and as Billy Graham determined, some things just have to be accepted on faith…But take heart – One day we’ll understand more…
1 Cor. 13:12
For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
