I was talking to some folks in the lobby of Honey Lake Resort’s Gathering Hall the other day and several people that were standing around told me that they’d read my book. One guy chimed in and stated that he’d read it, but it was a little over five years ago when he did.
Hmmm… It’s only been out for two years.
I could have said, “Oh really, that’s odd, I only published it two years ago, are you clairvoyant?” I saw no reason to embarrass him however; so instead I just politely nodded and smiled and didn’t say a word. I suppose he didn’t want to be left out and made up a little whopper in order to have a stake in the conversation.
No harm no foul – Or is there?
How can anybody trust a liar? (It made me uneasy being around him for the rest of the conversation.)
Most everyone has told a lie or two at some point in their lives and no one including me should be hypocritical about this or any other mistake that we make. One of the things that I dislike most in life however is for someone to lie to me. I don’t condemn folks for doing it mind you, (as much as I struggle with sin, I’m in no position to do that), but from the moment a lie emerges from their lips, it does make it very difficult for me to believe anything that they say from that point on. In other words it shatters my trust in them and I don’t want to be around people I cannot trust.
Destroying the trust of others in us is a serious consequence of this sin. Even if someone tells the truth for 99 times thereafter, it seems that old lie is still lodged in the depths of the mind and the worrisome question arises, “I wonder if they’re telling the truth this time”.
The Bible has much to say about lies stating that they are evil and originated from satan. John 8:44 – “For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies”.
We might want to think about the significance of being “A child of satan” vs. a child of God.
Yikes!
Sadly many of our national media and government leaders seem to be children of satan. Today’s crowd calls it “spin”. Hitler was the king of spin in his day, but he didn’t call it spin, he called it “propaganda”. He succeeded in getting an entire nation to believe his lies and managed to ignite a world war and was successful in spilling the blood of millions of innocent people. Here is what this child of Lucifer had to say about it:
- All propaganda must be popular and its intellectual level must be adjusted to the most limited intelligence among those it is addressed to. Consequently, the greater the mass it is intended to reach, the lower its purely intellectual level will have to be. The receptivity of the great masses is very limited, their intelligence is small, but their power of forgetting is enormous.
- Propaganda must not investigate the truth objectively and, in so far as it is favorable to the other side, present it according to the theoretical rules of justice; yet it must present only that aspect of the truth which is favorable to its own side. The receptive powers of the masses are very restricted, and their understanding is feeble.
- The great majority of a nation is so feminine in its character and outlook that its thought and conduct are ruled by sentiment rather than by sober reasoning.
Sounds like a page out of Obama’s gun control, spending, and health care mantra, eh?
Satan’s sway over mankind began when he turned the minds of Adam and Eve against God. In order to pull it off, he had to lie to them about God—and they had to fall for it. Our problem is that we, like Adam and Eve, sometimes believe satan’s lies.
We had a 92 year old grandma come out to Honey Lake the other day and she caught over 100 bluegill using a cane pole and a box of night crawlers while fishing in Lake Obo. She skillfully threaded the wiggling worms on her hook and dexterously hid its sharp point. Those big dummy bluegills never saw the hook; they just saw that juicy worm as an enticing snack and chomped into it with vigor.
Note the similarities to Adam & Eve: “The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too”.
YEOWWWW!
That razor sharp hook in the lips hurts…Don’t let granny git ya! Grannie’s scam will land you in the frying pan.
Don’t lie and don’t fall for lies. The word “Lie” is not the clean comfortable word like spin or propaganda that folks purport it to be; it’s evil, plain and simple evil.
Matt. 5:37
Simply let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.
