I had a great time this weekend. My friends Jack “Murf the Surf” Murphy and Clifton Jansky came to Honey Lake and we had a good time together. Saturday night we had about 40 folks over to my house for some barbeque and then we were entertained by these talented musicians.
A good time was had by all.
Then on Sunday we had our second Honey Lake Church and Worldwide Ministry service followed by some good food at the Lakeside Pavilion at the Sunday brunch.
A good time was had by all.
Last night I was invited to have dinner with Governor Rick Scott and a dozen or so top executives from around the state in the white ballroom of the Honey Lake Resort’s Gathering Hall. They are here for the Transportation summit conducted by the Florida Chamber of Commerce Foundation.
A good time was had by all.
At our party Murf and Clifton sang as their final song a tune about there being “no more tomorrows”. Afterwards I spoke to my friends about that sobering subject.
While that song is accurate in the sense that when we take our last breath on this earth we will not wake up to a brand new day as we did this morning, it is inaccurate to say that there will be no more tomorrows because in fact we were created to live forever.
We will spend that time in heaven or hell, dependent entirely upon our relationship with Jesus Christ. It doesn’t matter if we belonged to a certain church or if we have been naughty or nice. The only thing that will really matter is whether or not we’ve acknowledged Jesus Christ as being our God and Savior who lived a perfect life and then died on a cross as a sacrifice for our sins. In so doing He satisfied the strict requirements of a Holy God that all sin must be punished in a manner acceptable to Him, and then after fulfilling His mission He was resurrected and today sits on His throne in heaven. We must confess our sins, ask for forgiveness for them, and begin our journey to follow Him instead of the world.
Then (and only then) can a good time be enjoyed by all that have called upon His Holy name.
I didn’t get home from the dinner with Governor Rick Scott last night until 10 p.m. and then I stayed up past midnight talking to Clifton.
It was a very long day and I’m pooped!
In spite of being really tired this morning, I have another full schedule ahead of me again today. Several of my friends have expressed concern that I’m pushing myself too hard. I hear them, but as I was speaking to Clifton last night I made the point that there won’t be that many more tomorrows on this earth regardless. Soon enough, that mist that arises over Honey Lake like a big steaming cup of hot coffee will disappear entirely, and so will the vapor of my life and then there will be no more tomorrows for me to enjoy at Honey Lake.
It will be someone else that will enjoy them for a season.
The average person lives 77.9 years and I’m already 66. My curtain is closing….
Yikes!
I better start packing.
Hmmm…What should I take?
Money? Nope – Not allowed.
Plantation? Nope – Not allowed.
Truck? Nope – Not allowed.
Job? Nope – Not allowed.
Family/friends? Nope – Not allowed.
My pup Coopie? Nope – Not allowed…
Sigh…All worldly vanities, possessions, and outward privilege associated with this world will disappear like the vapor mist of this life
Well what will I be allowed to take with me into eternity?
Only the things that I’ve done in this life, both good and bad…The best news is that according to the Bible the bad things will not be remembered in the next life, because the blood of Christ will cover all of my wicked wicked sins…
Whew –Now that’s some GOOD NEWS!
I work hard in this life because time is running out. This is the only chance I have to accomplish God’s purpose for me in this life and I don’t want to waste a single moment of it. When I go toe up, just tell my friends and family: “A good time was had by Bob, but…a better time is just beginning,
There will be wonderful tomorrows forever and ever and I can rest to my heart’s content in heaven – (though I seriously doubt I will want to for at least a couple of million years while I explore my new digs)”.
Those of you who really know Jesus understand what I’m talking about…Those who don’t, need to call upon the name of the Lord before your vapor disappears…
Hebrews 8:12
For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”
