Blistering heat one way or the other

Yesterday a reader wrote in response to yesterday’s Words for the Day in which I detailed the Obama record and she said in part: “GOD BLESS AMERICA!  Yes, I’ve forwarded this to everyone on my list that I know is a Christian and NOT for Obama!  I thank God daily for Christians like you and pray that each of us will take a stand!”

I wrote her back and said: “I appreciate your comments; however the people who really need to be sent the message are the ones who SUPPORT Obama. It will take some courage to send it to them, knowing they might disagree, but then that is what witnessing and taking a bold stand is all about it, is it not?”

She responded:   “Good reminder!  Thank you for bringing to my mind the ONES who truly need to be informed.  I will do so although I have just received a blistering reply to NOT send them any more political e-mails!”

I wrote her back and said, “Blistering e-mails are an everyday occurrence for me and all I’m trying to do is help them avoid an eternity of blistering heat…”

Our country is completely polarized – split right down the middle. I told my wife last night that I have a very difficult time understanding “why” anyone would support Obama, especially Christians. I sincerely don’t get it! But as I think about it this morning this phenomenon is exactly what the Bible predicts will happen. The Bible indicates that apostasy, (turning away from God and His laws and a complete renunciation of God), will occur as we move towards the Last Days.

Just this morning I read an article about Hollywood director Nick Cassevetes in which he has come out in favor of incest.

In an interview with “The Wrap” it states:

“The director of the popular romance “The Notebook” was out promoting a new film that features an incestuous relationship between a brother and sister.

‘I’m not saying this is an absolute but in a way, if you’re not having kids – who gives a damn? Love who you want. Isn’t that what we say? Gay marriage – love who you want?’ Cassavetes said. “If it’s your brother or sister it’s super weird, but if you look at it, you’re not hurting anybody, except every single person who freaks out because you’re in love with one another.

This whole movie is about judgment, and lack of it, and doing what you want,’” he added.

I suppose this is the new way of thinking and I’m sure many will agree with his sentiments. Is the direction our country is headed? Is this attitude of if it feels good do it inevitable?

Polls indicate that Obama got a bounce after the convention. I suppose if the election were held today, he would win. It is so disheartening to me to envision another Obama term and the further erosion of Christian values that will accompany it, not to mention the further degradation of our economy.

We are organizing a prayer event at Honey Lake Church on the evening of October 7th and we hope to gather like-minded people to join with us and pray for this nation and that good leadership will be elected in our upcoming election. I hope you can attend, but if not, I encourage you to conduct one of your own at your own church or home.

I know from experience that more than any other tool available to Christians that prayer works. In this fight I have contributed money to campaigns, brought facts to light and encouraged folks via Words for the Day, publically and privately spoken out against Obama and those politicians with similar ideology, and done about everything I can think of to help defeat this candidate and his cohorts. And yes I have received my share of “blistering e-mails” from those who want to do whatever they want in sheer defiance to God’s laws.

What have you done?

In Matthew 10:35 Jesus predicted we will be divided over Him and His message:

“For I have come to turn a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.”

Which side are you on?

Matt. 10:21

They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.
