I don’t like to watch television, but on those occasions that I indulge in it, I often watch the history channel. It has been said that history repeats itself, and I find it interesting to study and understand ancient cultures and see the parallels to our own “modern” society as they unfold today.
Our once great country reminds me of a grand ship such as the Titanic that no one ever thought could sink. It did sink however, and I for one am worried that the good old USA might go down as well. Other great civilizations have done so, not the least of which was the Roman empire with its turning away from the family unit, decadent lifestyle, obsession with sex, blood lust entertainment, a welfare state of laziness and reliance on nanny state government, and materialism.
Israel reminds me of the USA in that it has been both greatly blessed and cursed. The Bible has its own history channel of sorts and it is the book of Judges. We studied it a little this weekend in Sunday school and our teacher pointed out that the Judges in the Bible were not judges in the judicial sense of wearing black robes and adjudicating court cases, rather military style rulers of the theocracy of Israel.
The book of Judges spans approximately 450 years and during that time Israel endured seven distinct sin-to-salvation cycles. In stark contrast to the days of Joshua when an obedient people conquered the land and prospered greatly through their trust in the power of God, in the days of Judges a disobedient, rebellious, idol worshipping people are defeated time and time again as they rebelled against God.
The worst of times came whenever a ruling judge happened to be evil. They would adopt an “anything goes” mentality of immorality and a turning away from God and His laws which resulted in corruption from within and destruction of the society and oppression from without. The nation would ultimately suffer greatly under his rule.
The best of times came when the ruling evil judge was replaced by a righteous judge who loved God and under his leadership the nation returned to God and followed His commands and once again prospered.
During those seven sin-to-salvation cycles there was little the righteous people could do in the sin cycle until that corrupt and evil judge died, and a righteous judge would replace them and they could once again prosper.
Our teacher pointed out that the United States is not a theocracy and we have the distinct privilege of changing our leadership in our democratic style of government by voting. This gives us a huge advantage because if we make a mistake and elect leadership that is morally defunct and unfit to rule our great country, then we can vote the bums out.
That solution sounds simple on the surface; however he then made the point that of the 52 million people who profess themselves to be Christians in this country, 10 million are not even registered to vote, and another 20 million are registered, but didn’t vote in the last election. He said it was a crying shame that with all that is at stake, less than half of the Christians in this country bothered to get off the couch and go down and vote.
Well the results are in and the “judge”, (Obama), that has ruled our country for the last four years has instituted changes that have moved us as close to a Godless society as he could muster. It is no coincidence that our country is now in the worst shape it has ever been in and spiraling down even further faster than a streaking meteor that is burning itself into oblivion.
In no uncertain terms our Sunday school teacher urged our class to get off our duffs and get down there and vote someone in office that would right our sinking ship before it’s too late. That brought up the subject of who we should vote for.
I would have thought I was in the United Nations with all of the diplomatic political correctness being demonstrated as several men in our class danced around the issue of who we should vote for. They mentioned that “one of the candidates” had supported homosexuals, abortion, and endorsed other unchristian activity and we shouldn’t vote for him.
My question is why not just outright say that the “one of them” to whom they were referring that is engaging in antichrist activity is President Obama????
No one would dare mention his name. Even our teacher stated that he wouldn’t tell us who he thought we should vote for, or who he might vote for, just that we should vote.
Huh?
I couldn’t take it anymore; I shouted out that we should vote for Romney. I immediately received looks that I perceived as meaning I were some uncouth politically incorrect boor.
OMG! I actually said aloud what nearly all of them were thinking. I guess I am an uncouth politically incorrect boor, but the truth is the truth is the truth. Obama has supported antichrist activity since day one and in fact all of his life. His voting record is well chronicled. I’m not making anything up. Anyone who doubts what I’m saying should go to Google and look up his voting record. So, why not just boldly tell the Sunday school class that this guy is no good for our country?
I’m sorry but I just don’t get it.
One member stated that he wasn’t going to vote for either of them because the choice was between a Mormon and someone, (who based upon his actions since being in office), has no apparent spiritual belief system at all.
Yikes! What kind of mindset is that?
He will help solve the problems in our nation by just not voting. Well isn’t that just swell?
I would prefer to vote for a Christian, but no Christian is running and one of these two men is going to be our president for the next four years. I don’t care if Romney is a Buddhist or a Mormon, or an atheist; I’m going to vote for him because his position on most issues is closer to mine than his opponent. He is a decent moral man and his stated policies reflect that.
As far as I can determine Obama and I are not on the same page on a single issue. Personally I don’t see how any Christian or American could support president Obama. This man has done more to destroy our country and turn it away from Christianity and God in three years than all of the other presidents combined.
Check out the facts!
I wrote in Words for the Day the other day about how uninformed most people are about the issues and the candidates. A friend sent me the following in response: “Bob, you are correct about the public being uninformed. Here are some approximate numbers that bear that out. During Prime Time (8p-11p) Fox News averages 6 million viewers, CNN, MSNBC and CNBC combined average 2 million viewers. ABC, NBC and CBS’s 6:30p evening news combined average 20 million viewers. That adds up to about 28 million viewers out of three hundred million people. So yes, the nation as a whole doesn’t have a clue.”
That is a little misleading because just 231 million people are of voting age, and 123 million voted in 2008. Out of those 123 million only 28 million watch the news on television; others might get their news strictly from newspapers and periodicals and the Internet, but suffice it to say that a small minority in our country is informed about the issues.
So since they are unfamiliar with the issues and ideology of the candidates, why do they vote for them? Is it because a candidate is (or is not) a Mormon, Muslim, Christian, or atheist; black, brown, yellow, red, or white; male or a female; or because their union leader, pastor, special interest group, or other patron told them who to vote for, or is it simply because they recognize someone’s name; or are they are being paid to vote for a candidate, or do they vote for them because they look attractive, smile real big, and lie really well?
If you are a Christian and are worried that our nation is moving away from being a God fearing nation, then vote for the person who supports Christian principles. Unquestionably that will be Romney in the next election. If you are informed, then help others who are not as informed by boldly standing up for the best candidate that will lead us away from Godless policies that will further alienate God and turn His wrath upon our nation!
A quick study of Judges will let you know what happened to those nations that turned their back on God; He destroyed them!
It can and will happen to this great nation if more people don’t grow themselves some moxie and speak out and boldly go out and tell others specifically to vote for ROMNEY and a Republican majority in both houses. Those candidates are not perfect and unfortunately corruption exists on both sides of the aisle, but upon careful examination they are far better than the alternatives and perhaps if God sees us struggling to turn back to Him by electing those more in line with His principles, then maybe He will see from heaven and heal our sick land.
2 Chronicles 7:14
If my people who are called by My name will humble themselves, from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and forgive their sin and heal their land.
