I receive many letters from suffering people each day and some literally bring tears to my eyes. It is gut wrenching to learn of the pain, indeed agony, that some endure and I can only imagine how it makes Jesus Christ feel to see and hear worldwide cries of anguish 24/7.
I’ve often longed for Him to come back and bring in His new world order of peace and love that is free from sin, corruption, pain, and sadness, and have questioned in my little peanut brain why He waits.
Only he knows when He will return and why He patiently waits for that day, but the Bible tells us that everything God does is for His own purpose. He has a plan for all of our lives too. We were created to accomplish His purpose and we have been endowed with everything we need to do so. No matter how we or others view us, we have the God-given intellect, looks, physical characteristics, strength, personality, talent, et al to accomplish God’s purpose for our lives, (His reason for creating us).
The tough part for me was to determine what my purpose in life is. God doesn’t exactly call to me and tell me to huddle up and then call the play like a quarterback in a football game. In fact I’ve never heard God speak to me out loud. He is not a screamer, rather softly speaks to us via His Holy Bible through our minds, hearts, and souls.
If you currently are not reading the Bible then you’re missing your opportunity to converse directly with God.
Talk about a missed opportunity!!!!
My advice to those who write me invariably steers them towards the Bible and a Bible teaching church. The peace of God can be found within its covers, and I often wonder why more people don’t soak it up like I do on a daily basis.
I’ve stood in many prison yards and cell blocks speaking to prisoners and telling them that they are not tough enough to make it through this world alone. As I speak those words I look around and I see mean, tough sociopaths with hate filled eyes, who are built like gorillas, and covered with tattoos and no doubt some have ended the lives of those who dared to cross them and could easily do the same to me.
And I’m telling them they aren’t tough enough to make it???
Yep, and no one is arguing the point within those walls. Beyond those tough exteriors and inside those tortured minds lie vulnerable human beings that cannot possibly find the peace, joy, and love that they desperately want and need apart from our God. I know what they are thinking because I’ve been there and done that. They stand in silence staring at me knowing that what I’m saying is true.
We simply cannot make it alone in this world no matter how tough we might be. We need God in our lives. And prayer, while good and necessary, is only a partial fulfillment of this need. We need to read the Bible to hear what God has to say.
Chances are there is one near your bedside and available via free download from dozens of sites. I urge you to make reading the Bible a daily part of your life. Hear the words of God comforting, encouraging, and assuring you as you fight the good fight through this fallen world that is filled with “toils and snares”.
God will not reveal when He is going to return for reasons of His own. It His secret and remains a mystery, but He has chosen to reveal wonderful things about Himself, about His Son, you, things past and things yet to occur. It is a fascinating read. His advice is not humanly flawed like mine, but pure and accurate and motivated solely by His incomprehensible love for us.
The way to achieve success begins and ends with God. His owner’s manual is the Bible; read it, study it; obey it. Begin your journey by reading Romans and then go back to Matthew and read the entire New Testament. Then read the Old Testament and straight through to the end. Read slowly and listen to what God is revealing about Himself and you. Soak it up, bask in the warmth of His love.
Deut. 29:29
The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.
