I like family gatherings, holidays, and football, but to tell the truth I’ll be glad to get back to normal. Yesterday my wife led a crew to take down Christmas decorations and I was happy to see them go, especially the Poinsettias and their shedding leaves. I love football season but after watching bowl and playoff games until my eyes are popping out I need a break.
I remember when I lived fulltime in Islamorada and it seemed as though the sailfish would never begin to arrive. I was so excited to see them begin showing up and then after about a month of catching them I was so sick of catching sailfish that I literally could not wait for the Wahoo to arrive. Pretty soon I’d be tired of catching them too, and would impatiently be awaiting the tuna and dolphin to arrive. On the plantation it’s whitetail, quail, duck, dove, and wild turkey. I love them all, but don’t want to hunt any of them ALL the time.
I guess I like change.
It seems that most people enjoy change. God created things that way. Consider Ecclesiastes 3:
For everything there is a season,
a time for every activity under heaven.
A time to be born and a time to die.
A time to plant and a time to harvest.
A time to kill and a time to heal.
A time to tear down and a time to build up.
A time to cry and a time to laugh.
A time to grieve and a time to dance.
A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones.
A time to embrace and a time to turn away.
A time to search and a time to quit searching.
A time to keep and a time to throw away.
A time to tear and a time to mend.
A time to be quiet and a time to speak.
A time to love and a time to hate.
A time for war and a time for peace.
Yesterday I received my first negative e-mail for WFTD for 2012 (I’m one for one – I’ve sent out one in 2012 and I’ve received one nasty e-mail). I suppose I did get a little long winded, but I was merely trying to make the point that we should expect both triumph and tragedy in this upcoming year by referencing some of the good and bad that happened to me last year. I expect no different this year.
I also was trying to make the point that we should put our faith in God and just be happy in Him all of the time. This is sometimes exceedingly difficult to do when we are stressed to the limit. I have tremendous faith in God and love Him with all of my heart, but it doesn’t make it any easier to endure severe tribulation. I’M SICK OF HEARING ABOUT THE ELECTION IN IOWA!
Okay I’m better now…
Eccl. 3:9
What do people really get for all their hard work? I have seen the burden God has placed on us all. Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end. So I concluded there is nothing better than to be happy and enjoy ourselves as long as we can. And people should eat and drink and enjoy the fruits of their labor, for these are gifts from God.
