I have a passion for helping people succeed in their lives. I’ve learned so much in life that I all but feel compelled to share it with others, (even when they don’t seem much interested in hearing it). I don’t know why I’m like I am in this regard, perhaps it’s because I didn’t have a mentor growing up and had to learn the hard way through trial and error, and I don’t want to see anyone have to endure the same consequences that I endured for making mistakes that were entirely avoidable.
I’m convinced that most anyone can wildly succeed in making their hopes and dreams a reality if they will apply a few simple techniques in a consistent systematic fashion.
Yesterday I conducted a training session for all of our employees on how to quickly and efficiently prepare a plan of action to achieve any objective. My system for addressing this requires that prior to beginning a project we must first think the project through, and then prepare a written plan of action. This involves simply making a list of the tasks that need to be completed, then prioritize them as to the order in which they need to be accomplished, assign a timeline to it, and then integrate that plan into our daily written schedule in order to accomplish it on time.
This is the same system I personally use to manage my day and I can tell you that it will work exceedingly well. It is also the same system I will be teaching in my Success Seminar at Honey Lake this fall.
As I looked around the room yesterday; I knew that all would not succeed with my system. No, they will not fail because the system that I was teaching them is flawed; this system is excellent. And no, it is not because some of my employees are too dense to comprehend it. Our employees are to a person bright and fully capable of understanding.
Not everyone will succeed because it’s not what you know that makes you grow; it’s what you do with that knowledge. Knowing what needs to be done and doing it day in and day out on a consistent basis are two entirely different matters.
There is an old saying, “You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink”. The same is true with people. I tried my best yesterday to encourage every single employee to integrate this system into the very core of their being, not only at Honey Lake, but in their personal lives too. Sadly though I know from experience in teaching hundreds of employees that only a few will actually adopt it and make it an integral part of their daily lives and that makes me personally sad, because if they were organized and efficient, their lives would be so much more productive and less stressful, and as CEO I know my beloved Honey Lake would benefit enormously.
Knowing that eating right and exercising daily will make you healthy and fit will not make you healthy and fit. Knowing that smoking cigarettes will give you cancer will not make you avoid or quit smoking. Knowing something is merely half the battle, the other half is applying that knowledge in a consistent manner.
This same principle applies to Christians. Billy Sunday once said, “You can no more become a Christian by attending church than become a car by visiting a garage”. We can know the Bible inside and out and not apply its wisdom on a consistent basis to our daily lives and totally fail in our spiritual walk.
Here is a nugget for you business people out there: Mr. or Ms. Business person if you provide outstanding customer service, products of the highest quality, fair prices, are honest, have integrity, take pride in a job well done, work hard, have fun, treat employees fairly, and don’t give up when storms roll in on a day to day consistent basis, you can and will succeed.
But to know something is not to do something. You must act on this knowledge.
Consider the two greatest commandments given to us by none other than Jesus Christ. Just think what we could accomplish if we tenaciously adhered to these great axioms of life on a consistent basis in our daily lives…
Okay people here is our assignment for today and every day that comes directly from Almighty God: Priority one is God. Priority two is to treat everyone like we would like to be treated. We have the knowledge; now let’s implement our P-1″s and P-2’s for today, (and every day of our lives)…
Have a great holiday weekend; if traveling, drive safely; and go to church this Sunday!!!
Matt. 22:37
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
