A reader Googled the article that I mentioned yesterday about President Obama’s taxpayer funded Recovery Act stimulus program that analyzed the effect that penis size has on the psyche of gay men. They told me that I was mistaken; the actual amount of money that we taxpayers spent on this program was $800,000 instead of the $800 million that I reported.

I stand corrected; No excuses, but admittedly I was so livid when I read it I must have misread the amount. Okay $800K.

Somehow that doesn’t make me feel better. How about you?

BTW – I’m told that subscriptions went up yesterday. I assume that means that most of you are as sick of this kind of nonsense as I am. If so, then do something about it. Speak up! Become an election volunteer! Vote! Don’t let the moral insanity of loudmouths drown out the decency of the sane but silent.

Onward!

I read a poll a few moments ago that indicated that 76% of Democrats approve of the job that President Obama is doing. I cannot understand this thinking; in fact I’m astounded, astonished, and appalled by that poll. It is in fact so foreign to my way of thinking that I cannot even comprehend how anyone could feel this way, much less all of those Democrats.

Until recently I had never personally met or spoken to anyone who admitted to being an Obama supporter. Perhaps they avoid me as being a boor. When I actually did find someone who freely admitted to it, I asked a few pointed questions concerning current events in the world and the United States. As expected this person didn’t know much of anything that was going on in the world or this country. I asked why they decided to become a Democrat, and found that this person’s parents and their parents before them were stalwart Democrats and this was their explanation for their being a Democrat. In fact their exact sentiment expressed to me was: “I was born a Democrat and I’ll die a Democrat”.

Hoo –rah!

Now I’m not saying all Democrats are as misinformed as this joker; (perhaps they are perpetually misguided, but not always misinformed). Just an attempt at humor, no nasty Democrat letters please.

Change of subject – I have noticed this phenomenon with religious affiliations. For example I have heard people say that they were a Catholic, or Episcopalian, or even a Hindu because that’s how they were raised.

Hmmm… This line of thinking, (or the lack thereof), seems strange to me. I wouldn’t bet my children or grandchildren’s future and vote for someone based upon my daddy, granddaddy, or some other ancestor’s political affiliation with one party or another “back in the day”. Even more importantly I wouldn’t entrust my spiritual well being to the belief system of one or more of my ancestors.

Make no mistake about it the Bible is clear that when we die we will face almighty God all alone. Mommy or daddy will not be there and neither will old grandpappy. The criteria at judgment will not be the belief system or actions of ancestors or friends, but our own. We have been awarded a free will and the decisions that we make in life will determine our eternal destiny. So we would do well to spend some time trying to understand the absolute best way to live our lives.

I consider myself an independent, but nearly always vote Republican. I try to make my voting decisions based upon the qualifications and past performance of those in the race, but often I just vote against the worst of the lot. Both parties usually disgust me and most of the time I wish there were other alternatives.

Fortunately there is a far better way to make spiritual decisions. I base my spiritual belief system on the Bible which I firmly believe to be the infallible, holy, inspired, unerring word of God that is as relevant today as the day it was penned. I don’t affiliate with any particular religious denomination, because I’ve found that there is too much inconsistency from church to church. I listen to what is preached and taught at an individual church and if it correlates with what is taught in the Bible, I’m on board. If not, I seek another church to attend. Of course in order to do that one must actually do as I have done and read and study the Bible to understand what it actually says.

To take my word or anyone else’s word as to what you should believe about God and the next life is in my opinion dangerous and foolhardy. Our life expectancy is less than 100 years; eternity is forever. Why bet your eternal life on someone else’s analysis? Read your Bible! Find the church that preaches and teaches directly from it and does not add to it, or detract from it. Don’t worry about all those influential, prominent, and fun relatives and friends who attend the church uptown. They won’t be at your judgment either. Jesus will be there with you if you put your faith in Him though.

Git out of the way grandpappy; I’m betting my eternity on Jesus!

John 14:6

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
