Through the years I have been good at recognizing when I am in what I refer to as a “downward spiral”. When trapped in the downward spiral, it just seems that one event after another is disastrous and right when I am down at my seemingly lowest point; I get hit again and then again for good measure. I often have a pity party for myself and whine to the Lord and ask for R-E-L-I-E-F!
I have not always been so quick to recognize it when I am in an “upward spiral” which is quite the opposite of the downward spiral, and with the upward spiral everything seems to go wonderful with blessing after blessing being heaped upon me. No whining during the upward just big smiles and purring. Lately I have tried my utmost to go to God during the good times too; only I don’t ask for anything more on these occasions, but thank HIm for everything.
Currently I’m enjoying an upward spiral. I recovered nicely from the accident whereby a herd of horses trampled me, our Honey Lake Chruch was completed yesterday and is stunningly gorgeous, (we have a huge wedding in it tomorrow), my wife, kids, and grandkids are doing great, a group of tough kids that I gave testimony to that are currently imprisoned in a tougher correctional facility are getting baptized next week, I haven’t received much hate mail this week, my cup of coffee this morning is perfect, my dog Cooper loved on me this morning and wagged his tail – Yep, things are nice. Glory be to God! Thank you Jesus!
Life is full of ups and downs. We know this. Our lives are going to be filled with both trials and blessings. Through it all God remains right by our sides. I call on Him often when trapped in the downward spiral and I try to thank Him often for His many blessings when in the upward spiral. God always remains steadfast and true. No one could ever have a better Father or Friend. I feel very fortunate and thankful for His love and compassion for me. As the old gospel song says, “For without Him I could do nothingâ€.
Psalm 91:2
I will say to the Lord, “He is
my refuge and fortress;
my God in Him will I trust.â€
