My son and I went riding around the plantation late yesterday afternoon in my little four wheel drive cart and it was a drop dead gorgeous evening. Pristine Honey Lake was crystal clear and as blue as the many bluebirds that populate the hundreds of birdhouses we have constructed for them.
We rode through miles of pristine forest stopping to watch wildlife as we went and observing everything from a clumsy looking armadillo to a flock of thirty or more wild turkeys.
Earlier that morning a few purple martin scouts finally arrived from their winter homes in South America and immediately began dive bombing the martin houses and checking out their spring homes. They must have liked their new digs because they were excitedly jabbering away 90 miles an hour at each other discussing the situation.
I tell you I am simply in awe of what God has created and I’m at a loss as to understand why or how I ever doubted His existence in my youth. My guess is that I was just too immersed in sin and its consequences to notice anything but its blackness. I mean how can anyone look at the beauty, serenity, and peace of nature and not feel God’s presence? If we will take a look around at creation and be objective, we cannot we simply cannot doubt that there is a loving God.
Yesterday we put our first real website for Honey Lake Plantation up live on the Internet. If you are interested in getting a feel for what I’m describing, you can check it out at: WWW.Honeylakeplantation.com
I really feel sorry for those among us who do not revel in God’s magnificent creation and do not know or appreciate the peaceful joy of God. Yes we all have problems. My poor wife is currently suffering from a really bad case of shingles and I have to take her to the doctor in the morning and I really feel sorry for her. I told her that I wish there was some way I could transfer her pain into my own body and free her from it and spare her the agony, but unfortunately she has to suffer through it.
Amazingly even as she had tears working their way down her face from the pain she suddenly looked up and excitedly shouted: “Look! Look Bob! A bald eagle!” Sure enough a large bald eagle was screaming low on the lake right out in front of our house trying for a fish dinner. He missed (Fish happy Bald eagle unhappy.)
Personally I like to think that God inspired that old eagle to put on a show for her just to take her mind off her misery for a moment. When we suffer we should look for God. You can believe He is there watching over us. He doesn’t want us to suffer and proof of that is blatantly evident to all but the most bitter. Remember always that God sent His own Son to die a death of utter torment in our stead as payment for our sins just so we won’t have to suffer forever and can join Him in heaven.
Some people blame God for the misery in their lives; I was one of them. I have learned to look inward and towards satan and the sin that was spawned by him. If you want to assign blame, aim it at our own sin and satan and not God. God warned of its consequences in the Garden of Eden and sure enough death and misery were born and remain in our DNA. That’s not all folks. Today God is still warning us of the consequences of our sins via His holy word the Bible and if we ignore it we shall suffer even more.
The good news of Jesus Christ is that we as born again followers of Him have been forgiven of those sins and will get through all this old world can throw at us and one fine day we will spread our wings and soar like that old bald eagle. And oh what a day of rejoicing that will be. Look for your eagle today. He is there and God will smile when you recognize Him
1 John 4:9
This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
Look for your eagle
