At one point in my new Christian life I stumbled badly and my business that had appeared invincible and golden virtually crumbled overnight. When the money train left the station, to a person all of those who I thought were my “friends” abandoned me like cockroaches heading for a hole in the wall when the lights were turned on. To make matters worse, instead of lamenting my misfortune with me, they actually seemed to rejoice in it.
It took seven miserable years to recover from that fall and it wasn’t fun. I did learn some valuable lessons about my God, managing a business, and myself though, and today I consider it to be the most significant and valuable thing that ever happened to me.
The primary lesson I learned can be found in Psalms 37:24: “though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the LORD upholds his hand.
When we stumble and fall we must depend upon God to work deliverance for us in due time that is according to His schedule and not according to our own. We should never question whether or not He will deliver us, rather just have faith that it will happen.
During the dark lonely times we must not only look to Him, but look for Him. The Bible assures us that God will never abandon us. Though it may seem as though we are forlorn and without a friend, and indeed it is gut wrenching to watch our enemies triumph and insult, the Bible assures us that God will never desert us and in the end they shall be silenced and put to shame.
If you are floundering today, put your complete faith in God and His word. Look to Him and look for Him. Be patient; rest if you must but don’t you quit! It might take a while for His plan to unfold and for the sun to break through and shine brightly again, but when it happens it will be well worth the wait; to that much I can attest and assure you.
No Christian should ever lose hope. To use a well worn clich, “Hope springs eternal”. I would only add: “to those who love the Lord”.
Micah 7:8
Rejoice not over me, O my enemy;
when I fall, I shall rise;
when I sit in darkness,
the LORD will be a light to me.
The fall
