I received a letter from someone who has begun writing a weekly devotional. He posts his entry just once a week, but still has a difficult time coming up with a topic to write about each and every week and is amazed that I write mine five days a week and have done so for nearly 11 years. He wanted to know how I come up with so many topics and if I plan them out ahead of time. My answer is that most every day I find it easy to come up with a new topic and I don’t plan them ahead of time. I just sit down and write whatever is on my mind that day.
To understand how I do this one must first understand that I genuinely believe in God and in the Bible with every ounce of my fiber. The Bible tells us that after the crucifixion of Jesus that God stopped inhabiting the temple in Jerusalem and now inhabits His children. In essence the Bible states that our bodies are “temples of God” and He resides within them. He not only lives within us, but He completely surrounds us and all of creation with His presence.
Yikes! That means that He actually does see everything we do and, (gulp), hears every word we utter!
I envision God’s ability to do this by comparing it to being similar to a television signal being beamed everywhere from its power center. We cannot see, hear, feel, or touch it, but just the same that signal is present. It is always available for our use and ready to be tapped into.
I also envision God as being the manufacturer of all mankind. When we started coming off the production line, He had an owner’s manual, called the Bible, written for us to use and if we follow its wise advice we will obtain better results. In His Holy Bible He also highly recommends that we obtain a lifetime extended warranty, not just for our earthly lives, but also for our spirits and souls, and not for just a couple of years, but for eternity.
Okay so yesterday I got a bill to extend the warranty on my boat in the Keys. I almost had an aneurism when I saw that the bill was almost $8000 per engine just to extend it for two years. Two engines – $16,000 Two years
Huh?
I told them I had the boat for sale and I would just take my chances. Now for a boat that I’m hopeful that I will sell shortly, I’m willing to take my chances and go it alone, but when I’m looking at a warranty for my life, spirit, and soul that literally lasts for all of eternity, I can quickly surmise that I NEED that warranty. (I’ve already demonstrated that I’m not good at all at trying to make it through this old life on my own, much less eternity. I’m a risk taker, but I’m not crazy… Really!)
And the price?
Well Jesus paid the price for us on the cross and thanks to what He did on the cross, salvation is now available to every single person on this globe for FREE. But you must hurry! This deal of a lifetime will not last indefinitely. Someday soon, (no one knows the exact time), this offer will expire and those left behind will miss out
You see it’s easy to come up with topics for WFTD. I just apply what is happening in my every day life to God and His Bible and today it was the outrageous bill for my engine warranties. We can all apply the Bible to whatever it is we see, do, hear, think, or feel in everyday life. Come to think of it, whether you write a devotional or not, this will work for everyone.
1 Cor. 7:23
God paid a high price for you, so don’t be enslaved by the world.
Take a risk anyone?
