I spoke at the Madison County Chamber of Commerce’s annual banquet last night. I enjoyed meeting new people and making new friends, but whenever I do something like this I do have one concern. As one might imagine I shook hands with quite a few people and whenever I do that I worry about germs being transmitted to me and catching a cold or something. I’m kind of isolated living out on the plantation and rarely become sick. It’s when I venture out and am exposed to germs that I come down with something. (No I’m not going to become a recluse like Howard Hughes and become a germ-a-phobic – Just making conversation this morning.)
Have you ever wondered why sickness and disease can easily be spread, but good health cannot? Okay, maybe not, but that is what I was wondering this morning. Germs can spread quickly but good health does not. (I know I know – I need to get a life.)
Now the same thing cannot be said for our spiritual well being. God did provide a means for our spiritual well being to spread like the most contagious of all contagions.
All we have to do is look back to where it all began, at the Day of Pentecost, to appreciate that phenomenon. The Day of Pentecost in Acts 2 is the only biblical event that meets the criteria as the time when the first people ever were “baptized in Holy Spirit”, setting the pattern for each person thereafter who makes Jesus Christ his Lord. The initial event occurred in a church, but then quickly began to spread all over the world right on through today.
Hmmm Why would God provide a vehicle to rapidly spread spiritual well being throughout the world, but omit one for our “physical” well being? Could it be that He is more concerned about our eternal plight than our physical life on this earth that is compared to being like a “vapor” that will soon dissipate?
If I remember it, I want to discuss that with the Lord when it is time for me to go “toe up”. I kind of wonder why He didn’t do both…
Are you part of God’s plan to spread the good news of redemption through the blood of Christ? If not, why not witness to someone TODAY? We all know those among us who are spiritually sick. Become a spiritual “Johnny Appleseed” and plant the seeds of the healing power of God as you move through life and watch His Holy Spirit make their spirits well before your very eyes won’t you?
Acts 2:1
“When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.
Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.
They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.
All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit”
