The Bible has quite a lot to say about those among us who argue, are contentious, and divisive. Basically we are told to avoid foolish disputes concerning God’s law. I have many friends and acquaintances who have a different belief system than I do, but I am convinced will spend eternity with Jesus. Some have some pretty radical ideas to my way of thinking.

I will discuss my beliefs concerning the Bible with them, but try to avoid arguing about specific points that they may hold dear that I summarily reject according to my interpretation of the Holy Scriptures. I’m talking about points that do not relate to salvation. I draw the line there.

If someone does not believe that the ONLY way to get to heaven is through Jesus Christ’s blood, then I will argue that point until “the cows come home”. If it concerns other points,I try to listen politely to their point, make my counterpoint without being confrontational and move on.

What if someone persists and insists upon arguing their point. The Bible instructs us to admonish them a first and second time and then reject them altogether. I refuse to talk about the Bible with a couple of people I know who just cannot seem to get this point. The Bible tells us that it serves no useful purpose, that it is “useless”. It also has some rather harsh language in naming a person who engages in this type of exercise as a sinner and as someone who is “warped” and “self-CONDEMNED”.

Next time that you feel like “arguing” Baptism by immersion vs.. sprinkling with one of your friends, consider this…

Titus 3:9
But avoid foolish disputes,
genealogies, contentions and strivings
about the law; for they are unprofitable
and useless.
Reject a divisive man after the
first and second admonition,
knowing that such a person is
warped and sinning, being self-
condemned.
