Yesterday a friend was chiding me about being a “right wing religious zealot”. He was trying to insult me, but I lapped it up like a puppy attacking a bowl of warm milk. I’d rather be on the right side of an issue than the wrong, and as for being a religious zealot, well, as I think about it, that is probably the best compliment that someone could give me.
I was wondering how someone comes up with a belief system that makes them “right wing”, “centrist”, or “left wing”.
My ideology and belief system is determined by the Bible. I believe that it is the inerrant, living word of God and it is the tool in which God communicates with His children and is the methodology that He uses to teach us how He wants us to behave in virtually any situation.
I try to use it as the foundation for everything that I do. Alas, I am after all still just a sinner and do not always succeed, but I do try to follow God’s word. I interpret most things in the Bible quite literally. For example the Bible states that homosexuality is wrong; in fact it calls it an abomination. Consequently I believe what God has to say about that subject. So I oppose gay marriage and homosexuality because the Bible says it is wrong and a sin. If the Bible is wrong about this subject then I am wrong about it. I use biblical principles, and don’t base my belief system upon my own human logic, reasoning, or prejudice. The Bible states that all life is sacred and thus I am vigorously opposed to abortion. These are both classified as right wing initiatives, but that has little significance to me. It’s what the Bible says about it that is important to me.
Does this mean that I hate homosexuals or people who get an abortion. No, the Bible tells us to hate the sin, but to love the sinner and pray for them. It also states that we all sin and come short of the glory of God. Not many have sinned more than I, and I would be the last person to condemn someone because they too have committed a sin. The Bible states that the second greatest commandment is to love each other with all of our heart, soul, body, and spirit and if we do so, we will do unto others as we would have them do unto us.
Many people are playing the race card these days. Recently someone implied that I was a racist because I stated in WFTD that the day Obama was elected was a sad day for America. I think that column was visionary on my part and entirely correct. I believe his belief system is contrary to God and that God will not bless him or this nation because of it. The Bible states that if a nation turns its back on God, He will do likewise towards the nation. All one has to do is to look at the history of Israel to understand that notion. They were mightily blessed when led by a King who was close to God, and were mightily persecuted when they turned from Him.
Obama’s skin pigment has little to do with his schema. He supports the homosexual agenda, abortion, stem cell research, spending money we don’t have, and he does not support Israel, (and God’s covenant with that nation concerning the Holy Land), and a host of other things that I believe are condemned in the Bible. It was indeed a sad day for America the day he got elected and I don’t believe that America will be blessed until he is out of office.
My friend who called me a religious zealot laughed at my belief system, but wistfully mentioned another WFTD that I recently wrote where I was on a plane that endured prop wash, and its wings turned vertical and appeared to be plunging out of control towards the ground and even though I sincerely thought I would be dead in seconds, through it all I remained calm and without fear.
Us religious zealots use the Bible as the foundation of our belief systems and don’t have to rely on human logic and fear. I know that to be absent from this old body is to be present with Jesus and I look forward to that day and do not dread it
How about you? Are you one of those nasty right wing religious zealots that the left wing hates with every ounce of their fiber? Then join me in praying for them and asking God to lead them to His holy word, the Bible, so that they might see the error of their dangerous ways today and get on the “right ” path to peace and prosperity
Phil. 1:20-26
I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body. Convinced of this, I know that I will remain, and I will continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith, so that through my being with you again your joy in Christ Jesus will overflow on account of me.
