I was watching an old movie the other day, “Crocodile Dundee”. Crocodile and a beautiful woman were deep in the Australian bush and as they lounged around a campfire, she began querying him about his stance on nuclear proliferation and some other things. He told her, “I don’t know, it’s none of my business”. She was persistent and kept on asking him questions which he avoided and finally in exasperation she asked, “Surely you have an opinion on this”. He looked at her and stated, “Who is going to hear it down here?”
I can relate to his line of thinking. What is happening in North Korea, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Israel, China and Russia seems far away from my beautiful little spot in the Florida Keys. When I watch the news I get mad as a hornet and just want to nuke them all; therefore I quit watching it. I listened to the Democrats bashing the Republicans and the Republicans bashing the Democrats with some of the silliest nonsense and lies anyone could dream up and this time of year when elections are close it is unbearable. I feel helpless and just like Crocodile Dundee no one really cares what I think anyway and even if they did, who would hear it down here?
About all I see that I can do on the human level is to vote and donate money to the campaigns of those who have similar views as me, which I faithfully do. Aside from that I pray. I pray for our country and I pray for its leadership. I pray that God will have mercy on this country in spite of the evil that is trying and often succeeding in overtaking it. There is not any sense in getting too worked up about it though; I already know how it is going to end as the Bible plainly spells it out for us. If I were not a Christian assured that Christ is returning to take me out of this mess, I would be scared silly, but Christians have no reason to be stressed out over world events. The Bible clearly paints a picture of what is to come and like the hundreds of prophecies that have been fulfilled before, those prophecies concerning the last days will come to be as sure as the sun comes up every morning.
It is easy to get depressed about current events if one does not look at the big picture. The world may seem to be spinning out of control with the terrorists winning, but we can rest assured that God is in total control and everything will occur as He wills. That is a good thing for believers and a horrible thing for non-believers. As believers our next destination is paradise. Prepare for this trip now. Look forward to it with great anticipation. Don’t dread the uncertainty of this chaotic world; the Bible states the world is passing away and everything in it will be destroyed. It tells us not to get too hung up on the world including POSSESSIONS. We should love God and Godly things not worldly things.
We know with certainty that before the “Mother of all Wars” and the end of the world happens, all believers will be taken away to paradise by Christ Jesus who loved us so much that He died for us. Oh yeah!
Do you have any non-believer friends that you really care about? If so, double up on your efforts to get them to go to church with you where they can hear the word of God and get saved. The end could come at any time. For that matter Jesus tells us that we should have a burden for every human being on this planet not just our friends and relatives and our Great Commission is to witness to the world on behalf of our Father. We have no commission from God to sit around wringing our hands saying ‘woe is me’ because some half-wit with a ‘short-man’ complex tested a nuclear bomb. As Christians we should spend that time trying to witness to anyone who will listen and let them know the time is at hand for them to make a decsion…before it is too late.
Mark 1:15
“The time is fulfilled,
and the kingdom of God
is at hand. Repent and believe in
the gospel.
