This is the time of the year that I begin to think about my goals for the upcoming year. I work on them all through November and December and try to have them in writing no later than January 15th. I set spiritual goals, career goals and personal goals including financial and then I work the rest of the year trying my best to accomplish them.

We have decided to start a new business utilizing parts of our plantation for weddings, corporate retreats, family reunions, bed and breakfast, and limited opportunities for hunting, fishing, and the like. I have been heavily involved with designing and building a myriad of buildings lately including a lodge, meeting center, numerous guest cottages and bunk houses, spa and fitness center, restaurant, stables, service center, dog kennels, skeet and clay course, boat dock, and numerous ancillary projects including a garden for fresh vegetables, a chicken coop for farm fresh eggs, pigeon, pheasant, and peacock coops just for the sheer fun of raising and watching them. That does not include the construction of several pastures, fishing ponds, building horseback riding and hiking trails, or my Christian Youth Center.

On top of that I am working feverishly on my new book which I hope to release in the springtime and promote via a road trip throughout the summer. That does not seem to satisfy me so I am heavily involved with founding a new software company that is really going to be something. I’m working towards revamping my WFTD website and already have ideas for producing a couple of other books including one on how to build a successful faith based business.

I would not want to leave out carving out some time to spend with my kids and grandkids, and gosh the white marlin will peak in Cabo in late November. Sailfish will soon be biting in the Keys, and thereafter I will hear big wahoo calling from the Bahamas and I must not forget bull dolphin after that. I need to fire up my boat soon and go catch some of them. Oops I almost forgot hunting. Man that is happening NOW! First there is deer season, then quail, duck, dove, and I can top it off with spring gobblers. Hmmm I still need to carve out some time for playing my guitars and maybe pick back up on my love of art and photography.

You may recall that I retired in August. (I am beginning to think that I am not wired for retirement.)

My written goals keep me organized and enable me to accomplish a great deal. Do you have written goals? Hmmm I bet not. Statistics indicate that very few of us actually take the time to create goals and put them in writing, much less work towards achieving them.

I cannot imagine building any of those buildings mentioned above without plans, WRITTEN plans. It would probably amount to chaos and wasted money, time, and energy. Do you suppose that our lives are any different? Nope, we need written goals to keep us on target. Get busy! You have all of the holidays coming up in which you can give it some deep thought. Where do you want to be this time next year? How am I going to get there? Give it a long deep think and then WRITE IT DOWN

God wants us to accomplish great things for His kingdom and with our lives. He created us in His image and He loves us and He wants us to reach for the moon. He hung the moon and all of the stars, the Universe and everything seen and unseen. It demonstrates to me His tireless creativity and love of building things. We should emulate Him in all that we do

1 Cor.9:24
Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.
