Yesterday I was riding horses with one of our employees and the horse that he was riding had never been on the trail that we chose. He was spooked at various stumps, sticks, and long grasses moving in the breeze, and was dancing around like a barefoot kid on very hot pavement. One time he nearly went to his knees in fright when he walked by a simple log that was near the trail.
The horse that I was riding was steady as a rock and would just continue walking along as though nothing fazed him and the combination of the steady demeanor of my horse and the gentle encouragement my employee was giving his horse would calm his hose down enough that soon enough he would continue on down the trail.
Horses are big strong animals, fast as the wind and yet it is my experience that most of them are afraid of anything that they do not recognize and get spooked rather easily. My riding partner mentioned that we needed to ride this horse more on this particular trail to get him used to the various sights and sounds along the way.
Horses are not overly bright animals. We on the other hand have been given a wonderful intellect. God does not want us to fear the unknown like some dumb horse. My strong faith and yours should enable us to recognize that even though we might not see Him or hear Him talk out loud, we can know with certainty that He is with us always.
I do not fear the unknown because I trust in God. Logically this makes complete sense to me. Think about it. God would not have sent His only Son to die for our sins if He did not love us more than we can imagine. Surely after going through the most difficult ordeal in the history of creation to save us, Jesus would not abandon us now. The Bible teaches that He is with us always, “yea even when we cross through the valley of the shadow of death”. God is always there even when things seem the worst. We do not have to face this world alone and God will protect us.
Don’t bolt and balk and show fear at every unknown. Sit back and relax and enjoy the ride. All things are possible if you will only believe and trust in God’s word.
I don’t know if it is true because I have never taken the time to research it, but I read that the Bible says “Do not fear” 365 times. Hmmm One for every day of the year. I guess God wants us to get this concept
Matt. 10:28
And do not fear those who kill the
body, but cannot kill the soul
