I have invented several products through the years. Each time I designed the product to meet the needs of whatever purpose I envisioned for it. This process involved making a list of all of the necessary features that the product would need in order to be functional and achieve its intended purpose.
At Horizon we needed an electronic pin pad which is an electronic device with a key pad similar to a telephone key pad upon which children can enter their pin numbers when going through the lunch lines. This device identified the student to the computer and brought up their personal account for the cashier on their point of sale terminal.
We designed it to be spill proof because kids spill things when going through a lunch line and electronic equipment does not like it when wet sticky things are spilled on it. This device could be submerged in a gallon of “Fruitopia” and keep right on working. We also designed it to survive a four foot drop test because, you guessed it, kids LOVE to drop electronic things. It was housed in rubber and would actually bounce when it hit the floor. It could take a licking and keep right on ticking. We also designed it to work very fast and hordes of kids could get through the lunch line in mere seconds. We designed it where it could be read in Braille for blind children. It beeped when numbers were entered and flashed red when an incorrect entry was made. It is an excellent device and we sold tens of thousands of them and Horizon is still selling them.
My greatest invention was a product called Polytranspar. It was an air brush paint line that is still the number one paint in the world for artists. I spent thousands of hours designing this paint to meet the needs of artists with its huge assortment of bright clean transparent colors. It took several years to develop these colors and come up with a formulation that is near perfect for artists.
I was thinking about this subject this morning and thought about God. I wonder if He came up with a list of specifications for His human children. He must have thought about it in great detail. He did not allow us to fly. I wonder why? Too congested in the airways? He just gave us two legs and two arms, why not more? Seems like we could cut down on pollution by walking faster and get more done if we had twice as many arms and legs.
I don’t have to wonder why He gave us two eyes and two ears and just one mouth. Because He wants us to look and listen four times as much as we talk. Just think this through for a moment. God could have given us two mouths, one in the front of our head and one in the back, and we could have talked to people in front and behind us simultaneously. (I shudder to think what it would be like for my wife to have that ability and have to listen to all of that yapping going and coming)
Hmmm It would be fun to see God’s specification list for designing us and to listen to Him explain why we are designed as we are. I must remember to ask Him about that one day as we stroll through heaven As I think about it some more, perhaps His greatest reason is outlined below:
James 3:8
But no man can tame the tongue,
it is an unruly evil, full of deadly
Poison.
No need to wonder anymore
