Nasty flies

Yesterday my wife and I were traveling and we had lunch at the Miami Airport. This airport is notoriously dirty and the restaurant lived up to its reputation. We chose a table and started eating and flies started dive bombing me and buzzing around my food. I looked behind me and saw a clean table and I did not see any flies buzzing around it, so I moved to that table, but my wife stayed at the same table.

In a minute I turned around to her and told her that there were not any flies at my table. I asked if they were still buzzing around hers and she nodded her head yes. I asked if she wanted to move to my table and she said no.

Huh? Why would someone choose to remain at a table with nasty flies buzzing around their food?

She will probably kill me for relating that true story, but it reminds me so much of people in general when it comes to our relationships with others. The Bible warns us to be careful of the people with whom we associate. Running with the wrong crowd is perhaps the number one causal effect of kids getting on drugs, abusing alcohol, and other immoral activity. It is the same for adults.

Imagine if all of your friends are devoted Christians who love the Lord and have deep abiding faith and are dedicated to furthering the cause of Christ and growing in their Christian faith, versus all of your friends being unbelievers devoted to anti-Christian activity and self edification. Logic and good sense tell you to avoid those people who would do you spiritual harm by leading you astray just like you would avoid a nasty germ infested fly.

Choose your friends carefully my brothers and sisters.

Proverbs 12:26
“The righteous should choose his friends carefully,
For the way of the wicked leads them astray.”

Proverbs 13:20
“He who walks with wise men will be wise,
But the companion of fools will be destroyed.”
