Seeing the invisible

Most of us are heavily burdened by the daily problems that we face.
The economy is tanking, congress is failing us, banks are collapsing, businesses are collapsing, shortages of jobs; however there is never a shortage of problems. There are plenty of those to go around.

Albert Einstein once said, “In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity”. I have resolved myself when faced with great difficulties to look for the opportunity, but admittedly it is seldom easy.

It is inevitable that we will face difficulties, the only variable is how we react to them. Confucius said, “Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but rising every time we fall”.

It is however easier to “rise”, if we understand that there is something good going on behind the scenes. I found out yesterday that a friend of mine is facing the most serious problem one can face in this lifetime, he has been diagnosed with a serious disease that can and likely will take his life.

As I ponder his situation looking for the “opportunity” of which Einstein spoke, or earnestly trying to see how this man could follow the line of thinking of Confucius and “rise” from this fall, I looked to the Bible.

As always, I found a straightforward answer. He must first be solid in his relationship with Jesus Christ and then look beyond the visible into the realm of the invisible.

2 Corinthians 16…
Therefore we do not lose heart.
Even though our outward man is
perishing, yet the inward man is
being renewed day by day.
For our light affliction which is
but for a moment, is working for us

while we do not look at the
things which are seen, but at the
things which are not seen. For the
things which are seen are temporary,
but the things which are not
seen are eternal.
For we know that if our earthly
house, this tent, is destroyed, we
have a building from God, a house
not made with hands, eternal in the
heavens.
