I have been besieged by questions from several friends asking about the progress or lack thereof of my book and I have been excited to hear that several of you have been praying for its success as well. I am especially appreciative for those prayers and am very happy to report that the book is coming along nicely.
These are not just my words saying the project is going well either, but are the words of my editor in a letter that I received just this morning, “So far it is very’ good! ” He also likes the direction that I have outlined for the rest of it. God is giving me inspiration, and I am not being slack and most days am working anywhere from fifteen to eighteen hours per day on it. We are a team.
My early life is painful to relive. I hate to even think about those dark days. It is amazing how much different I am today than when I was not a Christian. As hard as it is to relive those vile and evil days of being a drug addict and street criminal, it does serve the purpose of enhancing my faith. I know that I am miraculously changed and I know that God is the reason for it. I am assured of my salvation.
How do I know that I am genuinely a child of God? I know because I absolutely love the things of God. Sure I am tempted and sometimes I fail. Sure I sin and am far from perfect, but my imperfect self loves God with all of my heart and I am genuinely “trying” to do what is right. When I fail I ask for forgiveness and try harder the next round. Sometimes it goes round and round and round, but I maintain the faith and God does not give up on me as promised in His holy word.
I can say with confidence that I am a cheerful giver and truly love to give to the Lord, I enjoy witnessing to others, I enjoy studying God’s word, I love helping others, I enjoy hearing God’s word as presented by pastors and others, I enjoy praising God, I enjoy being around others who share a love for God and I enjoy going to the Lord in prayer. I have peace and joy in my life and can feel God’s presence and I thoroughly enjoy His blessings on a daily basis.
The other day I was so engrossed on working on my book that I completely forgot to send out “Words for the Day” yet again. (That is one reason I am writing tomorrow’s edition today.) I finally remembered late in the afternoon. I was tired, and had not eaten anything that entire day, but I ran upstairs and got it done. I figured, “better late than never” and got it cranked out. Early the next morning, I noticed that I had received two e-mails from readers who thanked me for that day’s devotional and shared with me that the message was “just exactly what they needed to hear that day”. Was it worth the effort? You bet it was!
I get letters like that most every day and it is very rewarding to know that in some small way I can contribute to play some small part in strengthening the spiritual lives of others, most of whom I have never met and probably never will this side of heaven. I do not have an agenda or outline of what I write about, I just write as I am led. If something hits home with you on a particular day, perhaps it should enhance your faith that God knows your needs and is watching over you and encouraging you through an entire host of resources that He uses to assist His children. Lord knows that I do not know your needs and I am not writing to anyone in particular when I write.
How about you? Is there ample proof to your satisfaction that your salvation is assured? Think for a moment. Examine your life. Ask these questions and be honest with yourself with the answers.
Do you routinely tell others about God and what He has done in your life? Have you “ever” told anyone about your love of God?
How often do you go to church or gather with other believers and share in studying the word of God and sharing? Just two or three times per year on Easter or perhaps Christmas, or most every week?
How often do you read the Bible? Daily? Weekly? Monthly? Yearly? Ever?
Do you enjoy giving? Do you tithe?
Hmmm. I hope you are smiling and holding your head high right now because your salvation is assured. I hope that your only proof that you have salvation is not that you believe in God and Jesus. The Bible tells us that even the demons of hell believe in God and Jesus and shudder at their awesome and holy name. The Apostle Paul tells us to show him our good works and he would show us our faith and love for God. Works do not get one into heaven; the blood of Christ does that. Works do demonstrate that we are genuinely born again and our heart belongs to the Savior.
Lest you make light of this important message, please read and then re-read what Jesus has to say about it in the verses below.
Does this message hit home with you? Perhaps God is using this WFTD resource to reach you and wake you up to His love for you and for His desire to tell you, “Well done my son (or daughter)! Well done!” He wants to shower you with blessings galore and one day open the gates of heaven for you to enjoy for never-ending eternity. He does not want to tell you, “I never knew you, depart from me” and send you into hell as your eternal destiny where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Did you go to church this Sunday? Why not? If you had really tried your utmost to go, could you have gone? Hmmm.
Matt. 7:21
Not everyone who says to Me,
Lord, Lord, shall enter the kingdom
of heaven, but he who does the
will of my Father in heaven.
Is your salvation assured?
