For some time now I have been fascinated by light. I studied it extensively when I was a young man. At this time of my life, I worked at a paint company and my hobby was art. As an artist I was always frustrated by not being able to achieve the full bright clean intensity of the colors that I was rendering in my artwork. The artist paints that I used were heavily pigmented and they appeared dull and dingy. I would have to create an illusion of brightness by painting borders that were darker and then paint lighter colors in the center. Ughhh!
I talked to several paint chemists about it and soon discovered that it was because of light. Light is what allows us to see color. The heavily pigmented paints were absorbing and diffusing the light and not allowing the purity of the colors to reach their full potential. Go outside tonight and look at your yard. It will look black dark and devoid of color. Wait until the sun comes up and you will see colors galore. It is because now they have light. Go into a dark room with a dimmer switch on it and slowly turn the dimmer switch up. At first the colors in the room will appear dark, dingy, and even muddy. Keep turning the dial and the colors will begin to sharpen and appear fresh, brilliant, and clean as the light ignites them. Any art gallery worth its salt will be flooded with brilliant lights in order to allow the light to properly display the colors and allow us to see them as they were intended to be viewed.
This discussion might be boring to you, but I made my first million dollars on it. With the help of one of my paint chemist buddies we invented paints that were devoid of pigments and thus would not absorb and diffuse light but instead would transmit it. These transparent paints allowed the colors to be viewed in their purest, cleanest, brightest, form and have intensity second to none. The paints that we invented are still the top selling paints of their type anywhere in the world and artists utilizing these paints have won awards worldwide too numerous to mention here.
I don’t know why I was thinking about all of this stuff this morning, but it reminded me of our spiritual lives. If we block the light, (God) out of our lives, then our lives become dark, dingy, and nasty. The more light that we allow into our lives the more pure and clean we become and our lives shine with intensity as our Creator originally intended them to shine. Jesus said that He is the Way, the Truth, and the Light. He can brighten the darkest corner of the darkest alleyway, adjacent to the darkest street simply by His presence. The Bible mentions this concept throughout God’s word and Jesus spoke of it quite often.
As with our beautiful surroundings God intended His children to be filled with His light. So much so that heaven will be entirely devoid of darkness. I imagine that the colors will no doubt be absolutely breathtaking and stunning. I cannot wait to see it. The Bible tells us that it will be illuminated solely by the glory of God. There will be no need of streetlights in heaven. His mere presence will be all of the light that we will ever need and will fill all of heaven with his purity and brilliance. Like Moses we will glow just by being in His presence. Hell on the other hand will be entirely devoid of light because God will not be there. It will be dark, lonely and nasty.
If you are not already a follower of Jesus Christ, you can have that brilliance in your life even this very minute, today! He stands ready and all that is required is to bow your head and tell Him that you accept Him as the living Son of God who died for your sins and then simply ask forgiveness for your sins. He will forgive you and then you must repent or turn away from your sins and follow Him on a daily basis. We do that by drawing close to Him in studying His word, and attending worship with fellow believers. We also go to Him always in prayer to strengthen us, forgive us if we slip up, and then He takes it from there. His glory will transform our lives into something clean and pure and if we will stay close He will brighten our every day.
It is your free will choice, clean, pure, brilliant, or dingy, dark, and nasty. It is a no brainer.
John 8:12
Then Jesus spoke to them again,
Saying, “I am the light of this world.
He who follows Me shall not walk
in darkness, but have the light of
life.
Fascinating light
