I read that over the holidays that a high profile Wall Street investor tycoon took his life by slashing his wrists with a box cutter and taking pills. It appears that he was distraught over losing some billion and a half dollars of his investor’s and his own money in the now infamous Madoff Ponzi scheme. Merry Christmas!
My sixth grandchild entered the world this weekend as a healthy seven pound nine ounce boy. His name is Owen Robert Williamson. His middle name was bestowed in honor of me. WOW! I looked at this beautiful miracle of God and thanked God with all of my heart for blessing us with this little rascal. I wonder if the gentleman who committed suicide had grandchildren. I wonder if he had accepted Christ as his Savior.
The Bible is explicit in that we should trust in God and not in uncertain riches. Too many people in the world have lost their entire life savings in this crazy unstable world economy and are now seriously contemplating doing the same thing that this gentleman did. Why? They are not putting their trust in God and instead putting their trust in fleeting riches and material things. The Bible teaches us that the things of this world get holes eaten in them by moths, rust and rot away, and are fleeting. Our living God is just the opposite. He is our unchanging solid foundation and will stand forever as will His laws and word.
The gentleman who committed suicide left the world the same way he entered it. Just like my new grandson, he came naked and penniless and he departed naked and penniless. Not one material thing will be allowed to accompany us into the next life. Only one thing will accompany us and that will be our works, both good and bad.
The Bible teaches that Christian’s sins will be forgiven and “remembered no more”, but it states that our good works will be everlasting. I urge you to put your trust in God and amass a fortune consisting of a billion and a half good works that you do on this earth and realize that the “riches” of this present day will vanish like a vapor one day, but your good works cannot ever be lost.
If you have not accepted Christ as your Savior, then you will stand alone without the redeeming blood of Christ covering your sins and will consequently have to bear that punishment on your own forever. You will be disgraced and banished and eternally separated from God. Think about that for a moment. Why would anyone consciously make such a decision? Nonetheless we all have a free will to do so and far too many reject Jesus and go with the world.
The best investment tip that I could offer you for the coming year is to fully commit your heart and life to Jesus. What better time than the beginning if a brand new year to devote to your Lord. Remember the dividends pay forever and no Ponzi scheme will ever take them away from you.
1 Tim. 6:17
Command those who are rich in
this present age not to be haughty,
nor to trust in uncertain riches but
in the living God, who gives us richly
all things to enjoy.
Let them do good, that they be
rich in good works, ready to give,
willing to share,
storing up for themselves a
good foundation for the time to
come, that they may lay hold on
eternal life.
Financial tip of the century!
