Google has a map feature whereby we can look at various places around the world using satellite technology. It is amazing stuff. Take a look at the pyramids in Egypt from the sky sometime if you would like to get a God’s eye view of some of our planet’s most amazing buildings. I have always been fascinated by Egypt and its pharaohs and the temples that were built to edify them. I envision hundreds of thousands of slaves toiling in the hot Egyptian sun working on the pyramids. No doubt the pharaohs took their pyramids seriously and spared nothing in building glorious temples for themselves.

It is interesting to me that the Bible clearly tells us that our own bodies are temples for the Lord; (some of them are as big as the pyramids). As Christians we should realize that our bodies are inhabited by none other than the Holy Spirit, the third component of the Holy Trinity of God. Further they are owned by God and were bought at a tremendous price and according to the Bible should “glorify” God. One would think that we would be as concerned as the pharaohs of ancient Egypt in preparing a temple that would be appropriate for our Holy Father to live within, but alas many of our temples are in need of major repairs and in some cases major overhauls. Perhaps some of us should be as determined as pharoah in re-building our temples into something to behold.

I am fortunate in that I enjoy exercise and am disciplined enough to religiously workout according to a predefined schedule. I have an aversion to being fat that is so severe that I would rather have my lips sewn shut than be fat, so overeating is not much of a problem for me. I do not drink alcohol, take drugs, or smoke anymore. According to my doctor due to the combination of the foregoing plus a bit of luck in the gene pool has resulted in me being in great shape for my age and the “miles” that I have put on my body.

I think that if one wants to get their temple in good shape then the real key to accomplishing it is to have self discipline which is a mind thing, and provided that you are a true believer, a spiritual thing. We must want to have a temple in great shape worse than we want to “stuff” on food and drink and lay around doing nothing instead of exercising. It is as simple as that. Billions of dollars are spent on diet books, foods, exercise tapes, and on and on; everyone is looking for the magic pill that will melt those pounds away, but the real secret is between our ears; the mind, and in our hearts and souls. Simply make up your mind that you are going to obey God and His command to treat your body like it is a temple of God.

Failure to do so is actually a sin and as with all sins will have bad consequences such as high blood pressure, diabetes two, heart problems, clothes that don’t fit, and low self esteem to name a few. It does not have to be that way.

1 Cor. 6:19
Or do you know that your
body is the temple of the Holy Spirit
who is in you whom you have from
God and you are not your own?
For you were bought at a price;
therefore glorify God in your body
and in your spirit which are God’s.
