Apparently I am not the only person in the world who is occasionally grumped up, as I heard from numerous of you yesterday on the subject with most everyone stating that they needed to hear that devotional yesterday, with just one person stating that he was always in a good mood like my cheerful friend.

I think it is particularly important to be cheerful during this special season in which we celebrate the birth of Jesus. With His birth alone we have been enormously blessed and have so much for which to be thankful, and that in itself should put us in a cheerful mood.

I find that my mood seems to go dark when I concentrate on the wrong things; especially on those silly things that I cannot affect one way or the other. It is like preparing to go on a family picnic and getting mad because it rains. Getting mad won’t stop the rain, better to lay back and groove and dream away on a rainy day. Someone sent me the lyrics to a song the other day that sums it up: “Be happy Don’t worry”, what a great song that is

I gave one of my sons this advice the other day. He was worrying incessantly about something in which he had absolutely no control; he could not affect the outcome one way or the other. I told him that a wise man has correctly stated that we should concentrate on the things that we can control and don’t worry about those in which we cannot. Petition with prayer as much as you like, but aside from prayer, leave the rest in God’s capable hands and take a rest. Have some faith and believe the Bible when it unequivocally states that, “All will be well with your soul”.

Another of my sons was griping about not selling his home the other day. Real estate is slow right now nationwide; however it will turn around in due time, but it will not be because he is worried about it. In fact all of the worry in the world will not speed up the sale of his house by one day. I advised him to spend the same amount of time that he was wasting on worrying about that blamed house, in playing with his precious little twin daughters who are his delight. Now which do you suppose will put him in a better frame of mind? Concentrate on the many blessings that we all have and your mood should brighten considerably.

Ah, if only we could take this advice and just concentrate on doing the practical things which will actually help us to resolve problems, (including prayer), and then remove it from our minds and leave the rest entirely in God’s capable hands and just accept that the future will be whatever it will be. Then we can spend the rest of our time looking around at all the blessings already bestowed upon us and enjoy them to the hilt.

Hmmm Do you think those few souls who go around with a grin constantly plastered on their mugs have this all figured out? Methinks they do
