I was on a flight the other day and we arrived at gate “D” in Atlanta airport. If you have ever flown in/out of gate “D” you will understand that unlike gate “A” alpha, or gate “B” bravo, or Gate “C” Charlie or even “T” tango, gate “D” “derelict” is the absolute worst gate in the airport. It is the gate where all of the economy airlines arrive/depart and it looks like an assembly area for ex-convicts, tattoo artists, and ex-carnival workers or perhaps the television set for a family reunion of the “Adams Family”.

I was amazed at how some of these folks dress, particularly the women. Let’s just say that the bra-less look is in and they leave nothing to the imagination. It kind of reminds me of a herd of Holstein heifers heading up to the milk barn with everything swinging to and fro. I saw some pants that were so tight that surely they must have cut off the circulation of those wearing them; it hurt “me”. I saw skirts so short that nothing was left to the imagination. I could go on and graphically describe various forms of underwear that were exposed, but I suppose you get the picture.

I once checked into a hotel and the lady working the desk had her tongue pierced and a large silver earring, (tongue-ring?), was located right in the middle of her tongue. I asked her what possessed her to get her tongue pierced. She told me that she did it for “style”. I asked if it hurt. She replied that it did not hurt that much getting her tongue pierced, and it did not hurt during the ordinary course of the day; it really only hurt when she ate. (Apparently she bites her tongue every time she eats because of the tongue-ring.) “Do you eat often?” I quipped. She smiled.

We need to teach our children that there are limits as to what should be done for “style”. Wearing a micro-mini skirt and exposing one’s butt with every step, or exposing a fat belly hanging out from a shirt that is not long enough, or exposing other areas can be nauseating whether it is considered stylish or not. I am not a prude, and this is not this “old school” grizzled up old man’s theory, it is straight out of the Bible. Watch what your children wear and influence their decisions when they make immature decisions. That is what parents should do.

Proverbs 11:22
As a ring of gold in a swine’s
snout,
is a lovely woman who
lacks discretion.
