I had a lengthy discussion with a friend the other day and the subject in part centered on some fears concerning the well being of his children that he was experiencing. I too have had fears concerning my children at times and it is not a good feeling.
One of my sons decided to get his pilots license and after so doing bought a plane and flew down to my home, which at the time was Jacksonville Florida. This son is responsible, mature, and the opposite of reckless and he had become a good and careful pilot and besides that belongs to God and I had no logical reason to worry about his safety. However I love him with all of my heart and it was difficult not to worry. I was apprehensive about him flying a small plane from Atlanta to Jacksonville.
My wife and I went to the small airport to pick him up and were running a little late due to traffic. When we drove up we saw lights flashing from an emergency vehicle on the runway and a small plane that looked like my son’s plane on its side. My heart sank as I raced towards the terminal.
It was not my son or his plane. He landed a few minutes later and everything turned out fine. After his two day visit I took him and his lovely wife back and watched them take off in the small plane into the dark night. Sigh It is not easy to raise kids and not worry!
The Bible is adamant that we should trust in God and not to worry about impending disaster. One can literally drive themselves crazy by so doing. If you have an infant it could die from SIDS, or your child could die from an accident, or a heart defect, or a brain tumor, or leukemia, or a million other things. Our currency states “In God we trust”. Do we really trust in God? If so, it seems that we would not worry.
The bottom line is that we all are in God’s capable hands. The Bible teaches that we are very valuable to Him and that He watches over us as a mother hen watches over her chicks. We are instructed to petition God about everything, (including our fleshly fears). I pray for my boys and my family often and others for that matter. We know that prayer works because the Bible tells us so.
Put your faith and your trust in God and combine it with prayer. Enjoy your time with your family free from fear that some potential disaster may materialize; trusting that if we honor His command to “Fear not”, that God will honor His commitment to be with us “always”, even through the end of the earth and throughout eternity. Utilize the aforementioned combo of trust, and prayer. Make your personal motto the same as our currency. “In God I trust!” And then pray to your Father often.
Matt. 10:30
But the very hairs of your head
are all numbered.
Do not fear therefore; you are
of more value than many sparrows.
Fear not for I am with you always!
