Something to think about today

Our pastor is preaching a series on the tribulation. For those who do not know, the tribulation is a seven year period of time when the Lord will have removed all Christians from the world and will unleash His furious judgment and punishment on those non-Christians who remain. Psalms 89:14 tells us that “Righteousness and justice” are the foundation of God’s throne. We are in a period of time of grace whereby God is patiently waiting for more lost souls to come to know His saving grace. He is delaying justice to satan, his fallen angel demonic forces, and those who would rather follow satan’s evil ways than God; however at a time that only God knows He will unleash furious judgment to the wicked and it will be unbearable and justice will finally reign supreme as the “Great Tribulation” marks the end of an era .

After reading and hearing our pastor review a blow by blow account of what is to come during the tribulation for almost an hour I left church shaking my head. My wife and I discussed it on the way home and both of us are very glad that we will not have to experience the tribulation. A high level review, (as I understand this difficult material in the book of Revelation), of what is to come as Jesus opens seal after seal:

First seal: The anti-Christ will be endowed with the powers necessary to conquer the world

Second seal: There will be open warfare throughout the world

Third seal: There will be widespread famine throughout the earth

Fourth seal: One fourth of the population of the earth will be destroyed

Fifth seal: The cry of all those martyred for Christ will be heard asking God to avenge their blood.

Sixth seal: There will be a great earthquake and cosmic disturbances with the sun going dark and the moon turning blood red. Stars will fall to earth. Every mountain and island will be moved out of place.

Seventh seal: Opening this seal launches seven trumpets:
1. Hail, fire and blood will fall to the earth and all green grass will be burned up
2. A great burning mountain will be thrown into the sea and a third of it will turn to blood.
3. A third of all rivers and springs will turn bitter.
4. One third of the sun, moon, and stars will darken and it will be light only for a third of a day.
5. Demons that look similar to locusts will be released in large numbers from hell with powers to sting like a scorpion and instructions to torment mankind for five months.
6. Four fallen angels will be released to kill one third of mankind.
7. The kingdom of God will be proclaimed


And then there is Armageddon. Whew! Aren’t you glad you are a Christian and assured that while all of this is occurring you will be resting comfortably and peacefully in heaven with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. God will not tolerate injustice and the evil in this world indefinitely. These are the “Times of the Gentiles” and a period of grace whereby God is gathering those who will follow Him throughout eternity. It could very well end today and with a shout from above all Christians will immediately be gone from earth and joined with Jesus in the sky. Then the “games will begin” as outlined above. I encourage you to read all about this beginning in Chapter five. If you are not a Christian, consider your future without God and with Him. This is some serious stuff folks; it makes me want to warn others like yelling fire in a hotel when you see smoke. Are you telling anyone about Jesus Christ and His saving grace?
