A young lad was asking me about the Jesus bones controversy the other day. In case you have not heard, some folks are going to air a television program on the Discovery channel trying to make the case that they may have uncovered the bones of Jesus Christ in Jerusalem. This is hardly worthy of discussion, but I could not believe how enamored this person was by it all. He stated that according to what he had heard that there is a 600 to 1 chance that these are indeed the bones of Jesus.
When I dug into it a little I found that he has his figures backwards and what they have actually stated is that there is supposedly a 1 in 600 chance that they are the bones of Jesus Christ and not vice versa. Now how do you suppose they came up with that figure? This is all nonsense. It reminds me of the Arkansas attorney that recently publicly stated in a newspaper article that the explanation for the country being hotter than normal was not global warming but due to Daylight Savings occuring a month earlier than usual. Duhhh! One can read anything in the newspaper or other media. I owned a magazine for twelve years and can verify that the people writing this stuff often make it up as they go. Just because some ‘air-head’ got an article published somewhere or aired on television does not make it fact!
Jesus Christ did not leave any bones. He arose from the grave on the third day and left no bones behind. He is alive. There is evidence galore of this and try as they might no one has been able to legitimately refute it for over 2000 years and they never will. As I actually looked on the Internet and researched this story a little, even a cursory look at it revealed that these guys are just trying to make a quick buck and they have been ridiculed by nearly every reputable Biblical scholar in the world as being shysters and their story is just a fairy tale laced with half truths and conjecture. Nonetheless there will be book deals, television deals, (already in progress) and much money to be made. Please do not believe everything that you read in print and/or see on television.
The Bible tells us that in the last days there will be many false prophets and “miraculous” events taking place and many will believe their lies and lose their souls as a result. It was disturbing to me to see this young man doubt his faith and to actually consider this possibility, (even briefly). The Bible states that there will be far more convincing events than this pack of lies and satan and his demons will be empowered with supernatural powers that will be very convincing to those of shallow faith. We as Christians must remain strong in our faith and not be easily swayed by half truths and outright lies. Studying the Bible will help solidy one’s faith as will belonging to a Bible preaching church combined with fellowship with other believers.
Make no mistake we are in the last days. Anyone who can read the Bible and will do so will come away convinced that time is running out. No one knows exactly when God will return, but the Bible tells us that we will know by the signs and then Jesus Himself explained what those signs of the “beginning of many sorrows” would be. Many will come in Christ’s name claiming to actually be Christ and will “deceive” many, there will be wars and rumors of wars, famine, pestilence, earthquakes in various places, society turning more and more evil with strange affections, lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold, and the gospel of the kingdom of God will be preached in all of the world as a witness to all nations and then the end will come.
Look at today’s headlines will you? War and genocide in Iraq, Afghanistan, Africa, and other nations, widespread famine and disease,(such as AIDS), killing millions, 32 students murdered at a college campus right here in the USA, abortion, homosexuality and ‘gay’ rights a major issue in a USA presidential election, etc. Praise the Lord that the gospel is getting out all over the world via television and the Internet, but understand it is one of the last remaining things that must occur prior to the return of the Lord. Yes the end is near and it is happening just as it was predicted in the Bible. Just like in the days of Noah, God will soon return to purge the world of evil and separate the goats from the lambs.
Those left behind will die lost in their sins and will spend eternity separated from God in Hell. Do you know anyone who does not know Jesus Christ as their personal Savior? Try harder to win them over. Start today for time is truly running outThe saddest thing in the whole-wide world is to lose someone you know and love to satan. Just attend a funeral for a non-believer sometime to verify that. Nothing could be sadder to me. There is no hope for those who do not trust in God. Jesus is alive and well in heaven and His bones are there with Him. Keep the faith my brothers and sisters and soon we will join Him
Maybe even today!
Matt. 24:13
But he who endures to the end
shall be saved.
