I have been trying to write a song and was having tremendous difficulty finding words for it. The name of the song is “The Love of God”. I wanted some words for the chorus, but everything I used seemed totally inadequate to describe the love of God. God is many wonderful things and altogether writing a song about the love of God is not such a difficult project; however finding one phrase that sums it all up for the chorus for my song seemed insurmountable.

This project was driving me batty and I even asked friends for suggestions. No one helped out. I had some great riffs and chord sequences and the song was pleasing to hear, but without words for the chorus I was drifting. After prolonged thought, I did find the right words to describe the love of God. “Jesus is the love of God!” Really nothing more needs to be said. God’s love for us was demonstrated by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on a cross. He who was as innocent as a new born lamb willingly took the brutal punishment for our sins in order that we may spend eternity with Him. The Bible plainly states that no one has greater love for a friend than to lay down his life for him and that is what Jesus did for you and for me. It is God’s Amazing Grace that saves us from sin through Jesus Christ.

According to the Bible there was no other way to satisfy God’s perfect laws. Why? Sin must be punished in a just world by the incorruptible and holy Judge who rules all of creation. Sin is so reprehensible to a perfect God, that we are incapable of atoning for it apart from Jesus Christ, a sinless perfect and innocent atonement. Sacrificing lambs, doves, and bulls as was attempted in the Old Testament is not sufficient to atone for sin, nor is just trying to be good on our own.

Not one sin will be overlooked; all’ sin will be punished and that punishment is death, (spiritual death or eternal separation from God). Some think this is harsh, but they seem to overlook the fact that Jesus loved us so much that He took our punishment for us and His atoning grace is free for whomever asks for it. All we need is for His atoning sacrifice to cover our sins to avoid having to take our own punishment for our sins. Simply ask forgiveness, repent or turn away from our former sinner’s lifestyle and follow Jesus and His commands and we will escape the eternal death and separation from God and instead be welcomed into paradise where there will be no sin, death, or tears.

John 15:15
Greater love has no one than
this, than to lay down one’s life for
his friends.
