I was about sixteen and was visiting a friend in the hospital. I went outside for a while to get some fresh air and saw a friend of mine standing there. This guy worked for an ambulance service and told me that they were expecting an ambulance any moment and that there had been a serious accident out on the outskirts of town.
Like a sensationalist gawking idiot I asked if he minded if I hung out and watched. He told me no problem, but just not to get in the way. In a few minutes the ambulance came screeching in with siren blasting. Two guys jumped out and my buddy went over to help them. One of them said to take a woman to ER and to just leave the other two in the ambulance. The woman had blood all over her and was screaming in pain. Thinking the other two must not be too seriously injured I went over to look in the ambulance.
I saw wide open blank eyes staring at me from a beautiful young face with blood streaming down the side of it. A young girl in her teens was dead. I walked to the other side and there was another one. I immediately wished I had never seen this. I had bad dreams about it for months afterward. Since that time I have seen several more people in similar condition. I always got the same terrible feeling and do not think I could ever get used to it.
I look forward to heaven where there is no death, sorrow, sickness, or pain. This life is filled with dark valleys and sunny peaks, but heaven is nothing but peaks. Imagine being happy all of the time and never being sad or discouraged. The Bible tells us to not concern ourselves with worldly matters, because this world will pass away. We are to keep our eyes looking toward God and heaven and to prepare for the day when we get called home like those young teenagers who suddenly died in that car crash.
Some people on earth should be dreading death with every fiber of their being, because when it happens they will not join Jesus in heaven but will descend into Hell where there are no peaks and the valleys on earth will seem minute in comparison. Unless one is saved by the blood of Christ they will never see God in heaven. There is but one way to enter heaven and that is through Jesus Christ. I have several friends whom I fear do not know Jesus. No-one knows for sure but God, however the Bible tells us that we will know them by their works; or in other words if someone belongs to Christ it will be evident to all who know them because of the lifestyle that they lead.
If you have not accepted Christ or if you know someone who has not, today should be the day. One never knows when the grim reaper will suddenly swing his sickle of death. Just like those teenage girls so full of life who suddenly and unexpectedly departed this world, we all face that fate. Spend some time thinking about this today. If you are saved, then think of those you know who might not be saved and what you might do to lead them to the Lord. The Bible tells us that we should think of death and/or the Rapture often. Why? I do not know, but my guess is that it helps us to keep focused on God and not on the material things, bills, money, petty grievances, and the hum drum of this old world. Our end just may suddenly come today without warning and we need to be prepared.
Mark 13:32
No one knows about that day or hour,
not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son,
but only the Father. Be on guard! Be alert!
