I went fishing with my sons yesterday and we raised fifteen sailfish, fought 6 and caught and released five. What a great day of fishing. We had a good time and for some odd reason as we were returning to the dock I was daydreaming and it occurred to me that there are people all over the world who are plotting how to blow themselves up and all kinds of other evil. As my boat sped through the water and I looked at the cobalt blue water and the bright sky with the sun beginning to set I thought to myself, “How odd that anyone would waste their lives trying to harm themselves and others when life can be so fun and good”.
I was reading the Bible the other day and it was talking about satan and what a murderer he is and how he is the father of all liars. Unfortunately his evil influence runs rampant and no doubt he controls those poor souls who because of his lies think they are doing God some huge favor by killing innocent people. It is not limited to a lunatic sect of fanatical Muslims, the crusades were conducted in the name of Christianity and other religions have joined in the savagery; and of course murder is not limited to religions; some do it for the sheer joy of it all. In the end Christ would have no part of any of this; it comes from satan and his demonic followers.
I have thought some more about this and it makes me more determined than ever to combat satan this upcoming year and not give him the satisfaction of succumbing to his temptations and sinning against the pure love of Jesus Christ. The next time I think about sinning I hope that I can remember that by so doing it will make that nasty serpent happy. I do not want any part of that. His evil influence is defeated by God and His children. We should not let Him down as we wage this important daily battle.
John 8:44
He was a murderer
from the beginning and does not stand in the truth,
because there is no truth in him.
When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own
resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.
