Only the strong survive?

There is a song that states, “Only the strong survive”. That is just so much poppycock. The Bible states otherwise. The Lord states that His strength is made perfect in ‘weakness’ and the power of God rests upon the weak. This would negate the statement that only the strong survive; perhaps the song should say, “Only the weak survive”, (and thrive for that matter). The world seems to think otherwise and makes heroes out of those who appear to be strong among us such as professional athletes.

Why do you suppose the Lord’s strength is made perfect in our weakness? My feeling is that it is revealed in the beginning of the verse, “My grace is sufficient for you”. It is about God’s grace and not about us. We receive the power of Christ in weakness. We should realize that we are frail, vulnerable human beings and we need God to survive. We do not come to the throne of God almighty in strength and demand his blessings. We must approach Him humbly and in reverance as weak human beings who rely solely on God for our survival including the very air that we breathe. God is happy to oblige by heaping His grace upon us when we do so. It is His strength and what Jesus did on the cross for us that is important; not us or what we accomplish apart from God.

Bottom line I think this verse tells us that He wants us to rely on Him and to acknowledge that we are weak and He is strong and to ask Him for His power as a little child would ask their Daddy for help.

Still not convinced? The biggest NFL player on the planet who is capable of bench pressing 600 lbs. is just as vulnerable as the 98 lb. weakling when it comes to facing the trials of this life. If you do not believe it, talk to him when he is experiencing tragedy in his life. He will be blubbering just like a baby and the weakling and the rest of humanity. We are no match for this world alone! None of us!

Everyone needs the strength of Christ to fight the demonic influence that surrounds us. The Bible states that we do not battle flesh alone. We battle supernatural powers and evil in high places. I do not understand it any more than I understand how or why God created the oceans and the tides that come and go like clockwork. We might not know how or why tides work the way they do, but no-one can doubt that tides exist as we can certainly feel the ‘pull’ of them and similarly one can feel the pull’ of evil as well. Don’t be drawn into evil; reach out to Jesus as His grace is sufficient for all of us! I do not know about you, but that is very comforting to me.

2 Cor.9
And He said to me, “My grace is
sufficient for you, for My strength is
made perfect in weakness”.
