Few things are more frustrating to me than those who twist the facts to serve their own purpose. I read the other day where “30%” of the people surveyed in the United States now believe that 911 was a conspiracy and was pulled off by Israel and the CIA. That is astounding to me!According to them, purportedly our own government including our President was involved. Supposedly planes did not crash into the World Trade Center but instead the United States military shot rockets into it while helicopters hovered nearby. Many people are likewise convinced that the Holocaust never occurred. A very close family member of mine is convinced that we really did not land on the moon and the entire thing was filmed in Hollywood. Huh?
Yesterday I received a letter in response to my WFTD on the Pope and Muslims. This person told me I was wrong about the Koran and wanted me to quote the exact passages where Muhammad made those statements. Excuse me but the Pope already did that. I have watched no less than five documentaries on extreme Islamic fanatics including Osama Bin Laden and all indicated that they base their beliefs in the Koran. Logic alone tells us that these people are basing their actions upon their fundamental belief system derived from the Koran that they are actually serving God by killing innocent civilians. They believe that if they are martyred and blow themselves up, they will immediately go to heaven and 69 virgins will tend to them. Upon what do you suppose they are basing their beliefs? The Koran.
There is a debate in the Islamic world as to whether or not to interpret much of this literally and continue with things like Jihad and treating women like they are camels or to interpret it more moderately. I am told that the overwhelming majority of Muslims do not advocate violence and radicalism. I am happy to hear that. Perhaps this is the silent majority. If so, hopefully they will speak out against the violence and terrorism of the minority within their faith.
It is more understandable to me now than ever before why people reject the Bible. If someone cannot accept 911, the Holocaust, landing on the moon, and what is driving Islamic fanatics as being fact, how are they ever going to accept the Bible as being fact? In the Bible Lazarus a rich sinner who ended up in Hell petitioned God to allow him to go visit his brother who was still alive on earth and tell him how horrible Hell was in order to convince him to accept God and avoid his same fate. God told him that even if someone came back from the dead it would not convince him. Just think Jesus Christ walked the earth for 33 years and performed miracles galore; eventually He was crucified and put to a horrible death and arose in three days just like it had been predicted hundreds of years before and still there were doubters. There is more proof of that than any other event yet the doubters have a smart’ answer for everything as they deny every aspect of it. There were those who denyed it when it happened and there are conspiracy theorists still alive and well today denying His very existence and will be right up until they enter Hell, where once and for all, their raving will finally cease.
Angrily debating these issues with non-believers is not the way to deal with these people. Present the facts as defined in the Bible and the Holy Spirit will either convict them of their sins and they will turn to God or they will deny the Bible and every word in it. In the end it is between them and God. Christians are just messengers, the Holy Spirit does the convincing…
Proverbs 15:1
A gentle answer turns away
wrath, but a harsh word stirs up
anger.
It never really happened…
